160amp 3G alternators

Anybody know of any cars that have 3G alternators with an amperage greater than 135amps as a factory offering?

Let me tell you where I'm going at with this question. In my area I have numerous 3G sitting on these big V8 in Crown Vics but they have the wrong mounting positions due to it be high in the V of the 8. So the alternator is mount at the bottem and back from what I can tell and vary different than the side mount of the 7 & 8.25" mounts.

So as I see it, in order to get a 200amp alternator you have to change the rectifier. Since the 3G case is really modular, I figure you could swap out the center piece and probably the rotor and Interal Voltage regulator goes.

So if I can confirm any factory cars comes with a 135plus size amperage like this 160amp I'm hearing , I could get a few 135amp 3gs and convert them. Alternators are dime a dozen around my location.

I also picked up my 3rd 3G from a 1993 Sable ;)

Thanks but no thanks.

That post has nothing todo with my questions pertaining to what comes in a crown vic as far as amperage capacity nor what cars comes with a 160amp alternator as an OEM alternator, nor can you swapped various picece between different alternators such as rotors, strator, rectifier, etc.

It seems like alot of people on this forum like to use just "search" as their only comment :banghead

fwiw: I also sent an email to your fordinjection website asking the same thing if you are the person that runs that website.
I am the same person, but you need to read that thread I posted above!
It answered you question.

there are only 2 sizes of 3G alternators
small 135mm case rated @ 95 from Ford
large 148mm case rated @ 130 from Ford

Ford never built 160amp 3G alternators
Then these people on this forum, posting they have 160amp alternators must be mis-inform'd or wrong

Also Ford does list a 200/235amp iirc police-option for the Crown victoria 4.6L and it suppose to be 3G series. Since I have access to about a dozen Crown Vic some being the police interceptor could I gut out a 3G from them and slap that into a 148mm case?

That's the real question that I have, how much interchange abilty do I have between the parts with the 3g family of alternators?

( once again strator,rectifier,rotors,voltage-reg,etc )

Other than the way the alternator mounts are position the basic alternator looks the same.
The 160amp and 200amp alternators were aftermarket upgrades, which most police depts upgraded to.
There are many people on this forum that have 160amp alternators from me.
If Ford lists a 200+amp alt, they are reboxing an aftermarket alternator

Stator / Rotor Assembly / Rectifier must be of the same case size 135mm or 148mm
Pullies / Bearings / Regulator / other small parts will fit any case size.
most of the moutning ear changes are only in the front case half.

See not so obvious now, you see ;)

Fireguy thanks for the information and clarification. Is their any thing you can change to upgrade a large case 135amp to 160amp?

:shrug the large case is 148mm, not 135mm
I think he meant 130 amp to 160 amp.

broncoflorida, I have access to same cars also and if that possible and i don't see why not I would like to do that to my 3g also as I know I can get alternators at my department question is can I get a rectifer and parts cheaper?
ditto, I never mention anything about mm or case sizes :doh0715:
:duh I guess my reading skills aren't too good in this thread.

You can put better quality parts into the alternator.
Specifically a Hi-output rectifier with avalanche diodes

Im assuming the late 90's early 00 modular 4.6 v-8s in the mustangs, interceptors, crown vics, f-150s, expeditions...etc all use the top of the motor bottom mounting tab 3g alternators?
