1979 Bronco Coyote Swap

Hello, I have owned a 1979 Bronco since I was in high school. I tore it apart my first year in college in 1997 but didn't have the resources to do what I wanted to it, marriage, kids, life, divorce etc. all got in the way. Now I am 42 and have the funds to do what I want.

I have purchased a 2016 F150 Coyote motor that only had 32k miles from a wrecked truck. I just picked up a ZF-5 S5-47M transmission to put behind it. All bolts up as it should, the motor has the original Flexplate from the automatic and I need to know what clutch to get for this. The transmission is from a 99 F250 SuperDuty but the seller did not know what motor it was behind. likely a 5.4L V8 or a 6.8L V10. They all share the bell housing pattern with the newer 5.0L Coyote. The 5.4L flywheel and Mustang 5.0L flywheels on RockAuto seem to be different sizes, so not sure which I will need to work between the two setups. I am thinking for the starter to line up, I need the 5.0L flywheel, and maybe the 5.4L or 6.8L clutch???

Flexplate through the Slave cylinder hole.

bolted together to verify fit and alignment. Need correct bellhousing bolts. These were the 114mm ones that allowed the motor on my engine stand...

Dakota Digital sells a 3rd party cruise system, that company has the same LS kit with a different harness to work with the Ford Coyote. Because it is just linked into the fuel pedal it works with different makes... I will have to have my NP205 Tail housing modified for the hall effect sensor to drive the Dakota Digital gauges correctly. This place offers that service for $85 if you send in your old housing to be modified.

The Kit Dakota Digital makes is actually not made by them, it is 3rd party system. Talking to the company that makes it, they sell this kit with a different harness for the Ford Gas Pedal.

I will have to modify the Tail housing of my NP205 to accept a sensor for the Dakota Digital gauges. This company does this for $85 if you send in your tail housing for them to machine.

Glad to hear from you. Been wondering how the swap is going. So what does a 2015- Mustang cruise at, RPM wise. Perhaps for basic comparison, my 400/C6/4:11 turns 2800 at 65MPH. Doesent like to go over 70.

really?
no 70 mph? due to missing power or what? ok you got some shorter gears, but you got bigger wheels, hence it may be same setup technically compared to stock gearing/wheel size.
2017 Mustang, 3.73 geared car with 6 speed manual is around 2100/2200 rpm at 70 mph, never usually at 70 very long so don't have exact rpm... :devilish:
Correct. I checked it with GPS and it's off 1MPH. When I bought it, it had 31 inch tires and the speedometer would read 85 but GPS would read 70. Who knows what speedometer gear is in there.
So the RPMs work out pretty close to your Mustang.

got it.
and got the same
with the 35 or 33 tires, it does not really change compared to GPS.
at 40 km/h on speedo I am doing around 48/49 real speed on 35s
at 40 km/h on speed its around 46-47 with 33's
I did expect the reading with 33s to be much more accurate, as its a 19teeth gear on the speedo cable, but not sure whats installed in the c6 and or what rear axle gearing I have.
need to open up both cases, as its not the same, we figured that out on some other thread.

oh man, I need to stop poluting other peoples threads with my stuff

I checked it and the F-150 shifts around 2k RPM all the way through the gears, now if you romp on it, it will downshift and rap to 3k easily, but in normal driving all the way to 80mph it barely got above 2k and this is bone stock 2012 STX F-150 with just a commercial topper added. So I think due to the calculation saying I will be around 2,000 RPM with the 3.55 gears and 35 inch tires.. I think I will just give it a try and if it is doggy with the 5 speed manual, I will change the gears to 4.10 or 4.30 when I add lockers someday. Likely just get pre-build axles from Curie Enterprises completely setup...if I can afford that...🤑

what is your tire size?
according to the calculator, you should get 70 with the 1-1 in forth gear of your C6 @ 2770... I would guess actual tire diameter is not exactly 35" have to measure them to know for sure...

Is that a program or a website? I'd like to play around with it.
