I have a 1990 ford bronco with a 4.9l and e4od. when i put it in drive its like its in 3rd gear like a limp mode type thing. I've had it rebuilt with new converter replaced the solenoid shift pack, the VSS, the rmp reader, NSS, TPS, and the PCM. Have no idea whats causing it not to shift not getting any codes relating to the transmission. Any help would be appreciated.

I know you said you replace the VSS, but this may be a stupid question, but is your speedometer working?

It may be acting like it's stuck in 3rd gear because it is. Most electronic transmissions will default to a certain gear when there is no electrical input to the shift solenoids. It's often 3rd gear which is usually a direct 1 to 1 ratio. That would mean a lack of command from the EEC, could be bad wiring or connector though.

The E4OD should default to 1st gear in the event of an electrical failure, but thats not always the case. Hook up a scanner and check live data, see what it says.
  • 1st gear : Solenoid 1 on, Solenoid 2 off
  • 2nd gear: both on
  • 3rd gear: Solenoid 1 off, Solenoid 2 On
  • 4th gear: both off
First verify that those are working, either by checking live data thru the PCM, or youll have to back probe the harness and check that way. You said you dont have any codes, which means it is probably not a solenoid issue but you should verify it. Considering youve checked everything else, if this doesnt turn up anything else then id have to assume a mechanical issue with the transmission.
