I have a 1993 f-150 with the 5.8L motor and the E4OD tranny. My truck will not drive in overdrive most of the time. I have to press the overdrive button and turn the overdrive off and it will jolt into gear. It will just rev up and not go anywhere. Sometimes it will drive in overdrive for a little while but when it gets time to actually shift into overdrive it will just rev up like its in neutral and I have to take it out of overdrive and it will jolt back into gear. Trying to not have to replace my tranny. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the trans is toast. How does the fluid look and smell?

Have you tried putting a bottle or two of Lucas trans fix in it??

I have changed the fluid and filter in the tranny. I think it may be an electrical problem because it cuts in and out all of a sudden and isn't consistent.

Check your brake lights for issues. Specially coming on while in OD. Your torque converter maybe unlocking.
