About a year ago I bought my 1995 Bronco XLT Sport from my nephew. He was the third owner of a Bronco that had spent it's entire life in Las Vegas. It had a few things to be dealt with, but it is a 1995. Due to some health issues and running my company, the Bronco had taken a back seat. Now that everything is pretty much back to normal, I can begin the makeover.

When I was growing up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, my Dad owned a couple of Red Mules we used for pack animals on hunting trips. If you are familiar with Mules, they aren't always the fastest, prettiest, and have the best personalities, but they are strong and determined. My 1995 Bronco is one of the all red Sport models. Hence I christened my Bronco the Red Mule.

The exterior is in pretty good shape, some small dings and dents. The paint and the clear coat are getting very thin, and the fiberglass top is of course faded. The interior is complete, and showing about the wear you would expect of this vintage Bronco.

My first decision was what direction did I want to go in with this project. Did I want to restore it to showroom stock, mildly modify it, or go whole-hog off road beast. I finally settled on an update mild modification. First I wanted to get the truck level, so I'm in the process of installing a 2.5 inch lift kit from Tuff Products in Utah. That should be done this week, and more photos will follow the makeover.

Thanks Dragon, I had to have a new titanium hip installed earlier this year, so it slowed all the projects I wanted to do. Doing well now, so it's time to get the rd Mule going. More pics tomorrow

Yo Gunhand,
Good deal!
Was speed control, if equipped recall work completed by dealership? Call local dealer or register and view status @ https://owner.ford.com; or @ https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ ... have VIN ready.
"Summary: ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS, PASSENGER VEHICLES, SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, AND MOTOR HOMES CHASSIS, THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MAY, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE."
See this guide by jowens1126 to confirm recall status @ https://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/23-technical-write-ups/457065-93-94-96-cruise-control-recalls-repair.html#post6530073
Note that the 93 recall is different than 94-96.

Miesk5, thanks for all the great information. Now on with an update.....

The RD Mule got a Tuff Country 2.5 inch lift/leveling kit installed, no more nose down attitude. Then she went to the upholstery shop for new interior door panels and recovering of the seats. Ian's Upholstery here in Las Vegas did a great job, and I highly recommend them.

Next up, she gets all the dings and dents taken out, new stock bumpers, and a new red paint job.

UPDATE - The Red Mule went to the paint shop yesterday to remove the dings, dents, oxidized rear roof, and and thin original paint. I also ordered a custom console from Creature Comfort Consoles, that should finish the interior makeover.

hopefully it won't need too much...looks like it's in pretty good shape already!
New bumpers, new hood were the big pieces, the rest is just cosmetic with the clear coat gone in places and the original paint getting thin. It's always been a Nevada truck, so zero rust helps!!

Nice Bronco...love the center console as well. I'm planning on making a custom console similar to the one you've got.
