I just finished looking through the old post, and it looked like a hell of a good time. Hopefully we have a good turnout like this at this ride.
Hard to get people to come out these days. Half the "beaters" in that old ride are now worth 10-20 grand, UGH!!!

I’m hoping now after sorting out a few kinks and doing a few upgrades that I’ll be able to keep up a bit better. The new 44s are actually a couple inches bigger than the 43s I was running, and have like 2 inches more of tread width per tire. Hopefully with that extra clearance and a bit more traction and a locker in the rear, it’ll help. My biggest issue is typically just getting hung up on my rear diff. That or just not fitting well in spots.
Not sure if I mentioned this previously, but those monster traction bars are going to be an issue, if you tackle progressively harder and harder trails.
Would try to make something like this, eventually, if you can. This type design also protects driveshaft.

You also need to move rear axle shocks mounts at least level with bottom of axle tube. if required, make new upper mount to get travel back, like this.
Not sure about 80 up, but there is plenty of space to raise upper shocks mount under floor back there on 78/79.

Yeah, I think we may have discussed it once before. At some point I'll likely look in to rearranging those traction bars, but it won't be for a while because hacking those brackets off the axle is going to end up being a mess. When I do eventually go to do it, I'd probably start with a new axle housing and start fresh, and while I'm at it would likely shave the bottom of the diff too. For the time being, I have a set of Bilsteins for the rear and will relocate the lower mounts for them. The stock shock mounts are starting to show some signs of a history of abuse.

Until then, I'll slowly continue to go up in tire size to improve my ground clearance. On that note, the 44s are all finally mounted!
