I know I should know this but what is a quick and easy way to identify that a Bronco has the 351 instead of the 302 (unless it is engraved on the intake plenum and I will just go slap myself now)?

Depending on the year you are talking about they are normally engraved on the intake plenum.

If the truck is known to be all stock, you can look at the CATALYST label under the hood... it's printed on there in fine print... if it's not stock... you can throw this info to the wind... LOL

look at the width of the intake manifold bolts, 351's are 9 inches apart and 302's are 7.5 inches apart... I THINK

Open a haynes or chiltons manual and look up the letter on the VIN for it. Or better yet, just carry a xerox of that page when looking at one. Like on of the posts above this will only work on stock. There is a way to eyeball the distance from the top of the deck to the water pump. The 351 will have more of a distance since it's basically a 302 with a taller deck height.
