Time for 406's and 49's maybe??? :brownbag

My first stuck, so I have to go bigger, right??
Was planning on these anyway. 404's are going
in the mud bronc (not sure thats a great idea either??)
460, granny 4 speed, 44 boggs and 404's might mean BOOM!!! :smash

Ratio is 2.08 (box) * 3.14 (diff) = 6.52 (see tag, last pic). Not quite as deep as 404's @ 7.56.
Wish they would come out with those 3:1 gears for the ford 205's already.

You suck :goodfinge
How long is the pinion vs the 404s? longer/shorter?

Is the dshaft tube splined all the way though? Cant really tell from that pic.
And do you have an extra, or can we cut that one up?

Um, pinion seems shorter.

No

Extra what? I got 2 axles and 2 torque tubes.

Nice but too bad 404's suck ass. they are known to split in the center where the diff is. thats why they are cheap and it might not hold up with 49's and a big motor.

what u should of gone with are 406s, they have a higher gear ratio and are much stronger.
Ummmm He's got 404's now and the pics above are of his new 406's :popc1:
He's been running the 404's for a while now and apparently he thinks going to the 406's will make him unstoppable. I hate him:toothless

BTW Jim I still think you should put the 404's under the EB and not bother with the mudder. Nice job as usual and I still hate you And Kevin for that matter Damn you two

he'll have to re-do the 4link up front (and tracbar), and make new spring perches out back. Re-do the ladder bar in the rear, the pinions need to be converted to use a flange for a ujoint like a normal axle (the 406s use a torque tube; no ujoint at the diff cuz the d.shaft it essentially hardmounted to the pinion, its also the main link that hold the axle in place), he'll have to re-design the brakes (most people cant do that on the 406s and still run 16.5" wheels, they usually have to step up to 18"+ Oh and the OBA will have to go back in since the 406s use air to lock the diffs, whereas the 404s use a cable.
...the list goes on.

Jim i was just askin cuz im thinkin bout how we can make our own pinion conversion for it since we dont have the tooling to cut splines.

Obviously you don't know the first thing about 404's, but thats a nice guess. :goodfinge
