Was the 400M used in the '83" F350 ??

All the internet searching i have done states the 400M was installed up to 1982 in the F series.

Thanks for your help..

82 was the last year of the 400. That being said, Ford did have a tendancy to use whatever they had left over in the next year...as well as doing favors for customers at the dealership. That being said, what's you engine code on your VIN (I believe S denotes a 400)? If the engine has 8 bolts on the valve cover, it's a 400.

Ben, i was following up on a lead to pruchase this engine, they told me it was in an "83"

I was checking before i made a long trip to only find out it wasn't a 400M...i researched more and emailed them some info to check out for me.

Thanks

Not a problem...just tell them to count the Valve cover bolts to at least tell you what engine family the thing is in:

8- 351M/400
7- 429/460
6- 302/351W
5- 360/390

As for the owners, wouldn't be the first time I've heard of an owner that doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.
