Someone posted this over on the local (TX) Toyota 4x4 club. I have no idea who this teenage girl is, nor do I know the family, but since I have a 13-year old, I can imagine what they must be going through. Thought I'd add it to our forum just in case:

"She is said to be in the waco/belton/temple area. she is from
pflugerville, texas, which is north of austin!
If anyone has any ideals, please i'm up for any suggestions! we just
want her safe return home!

(I don't know how to post the actual website with pics but here is the link)"

No offense, bud, but I don't buy it. Why isn't there an Amber Alert? And why doesn't the site tell *when* she went missing?

Good questions, neither of which I have the answer to. What can I say, I'm just the messenger. If it's a scam or a joke, those are some screwed up people to make a website posting pics of the kid like that. Being a parent, I'm inclined to believe that the great majority of folks wouldn't joke around about a kid in the family gone missing.

Anyway, I went to the codeamber.org site and noticed only 2 currently active amber alerts for the whole country. Yet I get several "missing kid" junk mail flyers a week (not to mention all the milk carton faces), so my guess is that not all missing kids make it on the amber alert system.

But who knows? I figured I'd post the info on here anyway just in case. My daughter is 13, and that 16 year old kind of reminded me of her, so for the sake of the kid and the parents, if she really is missing, it's the least I could do.

According to the local Toyota 4x4 forum, the police can't issue an amber alert unless it's an actual abduction. Since she went missing with a friend, the police are treating it as a runaway situation. So if what they're claiming is true, then I guess that's why an amber alert hasn't been issued.

Do they know when she actually went missing? (If I were the parents I would've claimed that the friend *did* abduct my daughter. That program is rediculously effective, even if the announcements do send chills down my spine.)

I wish the best, and I would also hope that no one would joke about something like that. But stupid is as stupid does, and I don't hold a lot of hope for the general population. Regardless, keep us updated.
