80-91 Red interior upgrades

I've got an 86 for those that don't know. I've upgraded the dash to my liking. I don't like the 87-91 or 92-96 dash over my modified 86. I hate the look of the Air Bag steering wheel, and the 87-93 wheel reminds me of driving my Dads delivery Rangers in high school.

But I don't like:
A) Door Panels
B) Center Console Cup Holders
C) Dome Light
D) Need a Grab Handle
for my new 5ft tall wife

I got a set of 92-96 door panels that are going in

I upgraded to 92-96 mirrors a couple years back, I might hook up the power adjustment now. :shrug

I got a Grab Handle for the A-pillar from West Marine (only colors were White / Black & the Chrome options)
I originally bought the Black thinking it was better than White or a junkyard Ford Tan or Gray.

But then I started playing with Color Bond spray dyes.

I got the new Dome light everybody uses in BLACK from a 2002 Mustang

I am dyeing it red to match

I got about 8 light coats on the handle and dome light, still a little dark when held against the Factory Red. I’m not in a rush and I’ve only used 25% of the first can (got 2).

Lastly the Center Console, here’s what I got:

But I’m thinking I might cut the front off and graft it onto the front of a 80-91 console, giving me 4 cupholders! :chili:

Looks like a fun project. I would love to see the door panels in your truck. I need new panels and that looks like a good upgrade! Do you have to get new connectors for the new switches?
Quit trying to improve perfection. :twak
Just restore the 86 interior. :thumbup
Don’t be a Play’er Hat’er
Perfection is a hybrid of the best parts from each year.

Do you know how many times my left knee rolls the windows down/up on accident :shrug
I’m 6’4” with 38” inseam, the power window switch placement on the 80-86 sucks!

Plus my door panels have major sun UV damage, the plastic is very flaky.

Shouldn't you be squirting expanding foam on your top?

I dig the door panel upgrade. That's way too much wood grain for my taste but if it's in good shape, i can still apriciate it. Nice gauges too.
That is some good ideas. I like REALLY like that clean red 92-96 interior.

You should mod up something that replaces these crappy 80-91 windshield washer sprayers. Maybe from a newer f150 or something? Has anyone done something like this? I saw someone posted one a mud trunk did with pvc pipe above the windshield. When i drove the 05 f150s they had a nice windshield washer sprayers. Covered the whole windshield with cleaner.
NICE. i was wanting to upgrade my dash and door panels to a 92-96 but would probably F something up, got a tech write up? how much did t he dash and panels cost and whered you get them? whats the installation pain rating 1-10? quit flashing all this beautiful stuff in my face without more info

After 9 years the wood grain has grown on me. :shrug :thumbup

I'd hate to see you trash that console. Have you looked around the JYs? There's quite a variety of cupholders available, including some that look like the front of that console. Look in the RANGERS! ;) Those with a stick sometimes have cupholders beside the shifter, and it's a lot like what you're planning. But there are also cupholders that hide in the dash (lots of mods), and some that hide in the center console (look at minivan consoles, especially their BACK ends).
I've got more than 1 console at this point, I'm going to use the worst one out of the bunch. Should be okay after dyeing it to match.

Those plastic dome lights are available in factory red, as are the grab handles that are being discussed in another recent thread.
I only find 80-91 Red interiors. I never find anything newer than that around here. Might be what the dealers in this region ordered :shrug
Everything Red on eBay gets bid way out of my price range. I got a low price on the door panels, but the rookie seller took over a month to ship from Ohio to Michigan :banghead

I did that long ago, drilled new holes in the hood, and used Ricer LED sprayers. Was super easy!

The actual dash & steering wheel will not swap from 80-91 to a 92-96.
The firewall is completely different.

The vent window changed in 92-96 as well, but the wiring at the door hinge did not change untill 96. It might be easier for you to find complete 92-95 doors the same color as your current truck and bolt them on. I had to rewire my doors and my vent windows won't open untill I swap them out.
so howd you manage the dash swap? or was the second picture just that of the donor truck?
Actually that is a picture of a mint F-150 (less than 200 original miles) that was for sale on eBay long ago.
Notice the plastic under the floor matts from the factory.
Typically I save pictures like that for future reference and posterity.
aiming for a seat swap too? i like to jump in mine right after i got done working on it for hours too
No, my seats are mint, and I put lumbar in them back in 1998.
I wouldn't mind having my worn arm rests re-covered.

have any more pics of that truck?
The LMC catalog has some nice looking replacement vinyl door panels. They do away with the fake wood grain though. Mine are original and all scratched up at the top. Good god they look so freaking cheap, like styrofoam or something. I'm thinking about brightening the shade of red when I get back. My black exterior, dark red looks like a ****ing coffin.

Got everything finished, I painted the gray trim black, makes it look better IMO

Looks nice Ryan.
I take it you dont plan on opening your vent windows.
Look closer :twak
Passanger side already has the matching 92-96 vent window.
Drivers side is waiting for the right deal on a vent window
wait, so did you have to re wire the window and lock switches?
