My Dad, who is extremely computer illiterate, has an 87 Escort and is having a problem that he can't figure out. The car will run fine one day, and not start the next. He has changed the fuel pump and filter, and did some old trick where you disconnect the battery while it is still running to check the alternator. He is familiar with working on cars, but he can't figure this out. One thing that he mentioned is he put the air conditioner on and the RPM's revved up real high and when he turned it off he couldn't start it again. He's in Glendale, AZ, and I am in So Cal. I asked him to pull codes, but he is convinced that his Escort wont have codes to pull. Sound like something anybody would know about?

I had an 89 1.9L EFI. I had the same issue @ about 168,000 miles so I sold it for $500 to one of my warehouse guys. Turned out to be the ECU. Good luck!
