89 FSB intermittant wiper box

The wipers on my FSB are acting possessed, they'll go for a few minutes then just stop for a sec, go for sec, stop, etc etc.

When they stop, I hear a strange noise from under the dash. After searching, I see there's a box that sits inline to the motor.

Now.. I'm sure the box us bad, but my question is.... can it be bypassed?? It looks like, from the pics I've seen here, that the plug from the switch,, will for directly into the plug on the other end of the box.

Can I do that to get me wipers, until I get a new delay box? Any drawbacks?

Got rain in the forecast for the next couple of days.

Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but I'd recommend some Rain-X until you get your problem sorted. It's not a real substitute for wipers, but you can handle some pretty serious rain without wipers with a fresh coat of Rain-X.

Just an idea. It's quick, it's cheap, and it works.
Best of luck with your intermittant wiper situation.

I haven't jumpered out a WS motor in about 20 years! Used to place a toggle sw in line w/motor (at motor end where White wire goes) and other end @ fuse block on an unused space and turn it off and on as needed.
fuse-----switch----WS wiper Motor terminal
This will give you Low Speed wiper speed; or place @ DB/O location for High

an ON-Off-ON Toggle can be used to give you either Low or High
ON-OFF-ON
SPDT Center Off
A special version of the standard SPDT switch. It has a third switching position in the centre which is off.

In the diagram;
COM is the wire from fuse - 12V+
A could be for the Low
B for the High

There's also a black ground wire you may wanna look at, that's soldered to the w/switch body-----mine was very loose and was causing me issues a while back til I re-attached it............

(edit----here's a little tech thread that I forgot I did. Unfortunately Mrs. Photobucket had killed my account since then and the pics are all gone. So I just found my old folder with the original pics and re-pasted them here. But you're gonna have to sort out which pic goes with which caption. Or maybe I'll do it later when I get some more time. Regardless, it should be pretty self explanatory. Good luck).

I just went out there and tried it... answer was NO. There's a stopper molded into the plug to the motor, that prevents it from going into the Intermittent wiper switch without the delay box.

Went to advanced, spent $20, and got a non delay switch. Plugged right in and worked.

Swapped out the wiper motor as well, since it was really noisy and I had one laying around from a parts truck. And found out that the previous owner replaced it as well (junk yard markings), and it had the wrong connector. There's a 3 pin connector on the bottom, and a 4 pin on the forward side. My truck only has 2 3pin harnesses. He just crammed the 3 pin connector (which was molded different as well) into the 4 pin spot... LOL. I'm surprised it worked at all.

Now, I'm tempted to hook up my delay system again... to see if it was the mismatching wiring at the motor, all along.

But, this is Florida... and it's either a On or Off wiper state.. LOL. in 11yrs, I think I've only used delay 5 times..lol.

So I'll leave it for now.

Thanks for the replies!!
