This is the only real bad part about a 9". You have to reset the backlash everytime you pull the carrier out. With a shim-type axle to do spiders or a drop-in locker it would just be a matter of yank it out, toss the parts in, put the carrier back, and be on your way.

A drop-in on a D44 requires pulling the carrier and ring gear as well, but no gear setup is involved if you leave the bearings on.

Sweet thats what I thought. Is there a roll pin in there that holds the carrier togeather? I thought I saw just one in there when I did my gears. Im not worried about resetting backlash thats easy.
