I keep getting this damn 634 error code which is a code from the MLPS, I have inspected, cleaned and adjusted this thing but to no avail it keeps throwing this code, this is on a 1991 bronco 5.0 with the e4od tranny.

I have read on this site that the MLPS is quite problematic and there is a way to upgrade the 91 style MLPS to the 94-96 model. I have read on Steve83's post and found this, but I cant find anything under that part # F5TZ-7A247-A anywhere, which sounds like it is a kit that upgrades mine to a newer model. Does anyone Know where to get this part ?

Thank you for the link, I have read through that and I can't find anything for the part # F5TZ-7A247-A, I put the number into google and it brings up other forums that talk about it as well and one mentions motorcraft part # SW5978. I found that part on rockauto.com

http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,48,SW5978

Does anyone know if this is the part that I need? sorry I just cant locate F5TZ-7A247-A anywhere.

So those adapters that are in the picture on the Napa or rockauto pic did not fit your 92? So what did you do splice in a new plug?

No it didn't fit... mine was flat on one side and round on the other whereas the new one was round on both sides.
I didn't splice it, I had to take my plug apart to remove the wires. There's a cap on the wire end that snaps off, beneath that there is a thick rubber insulator. You need to slide both of these up the wires to get them out of the way. On the other end of the connector there should be a red plastic divider that just pulls out. Once this is done each individual wire can come out but there is a clip that needs to be release for each one (I used a dental pick type tool). I did one at a time switch over to the new plug so I didn't get them mixed up. Good luck!

ALLLLLL new MLPSs/DTRs have the new-shape connector, and most come with the conversion shell. Just open the box before you leave the store. Your old terminals will fit into the new shell, and then it'll plug into the new switch.

Sweet,I think I will go with the Motorcraft one from Rock auto, I like to keep as much as possible OEM plus it is cheaper. Does anyone know if anybody on this site has done a write up on switching the connectors?

I just did this last week on my 94. Bought it from the local parts place. Had the new connector. First chock your wheels because when you try to unscrew it you wind up shifting the gears and it will roll. On the drivers side of your tranny unplug the connector, it doesen't matter if you break it off you won't be using it anymore. then take off 1 big nut and 2 small screws and the old one drops off. Pull off the red plastic divider on the inside of the harness connector with a pair of needle nose pliers. This will give you access to the connector pins, I used a jewelers screwdriver to push in the little clip on 1 wire at a time, and pull the wire out the back of the connector. Then feed that pin/wire thru the new rubber gasket, push it up a couple of inches to give yourself a little working room, and into the new connector untill it clicks and you can't pull it back out. Repeat this step for each of the wires one at a time, after you get the first one done it gets alot easier. When they are all changed over slide the rubber gasket into the back of the connector. Mount the new MLPS onto the tranny making sure to line up the scribe mark on the round piece behind the big nut with the scribe mark on the side of the tranny as you tighten it up. You may need someone to move the shift lever to align it as you tighten it.Then just plug in the new connector and you are done.
