Hello

I need to replace the transmission in my Bronco (93 5.8 E4OD 4x4)

I found a transmission out of a 92 F-150 but it is a 4x2.

It looks identical to my bronco's, except for the fact that the output shaft is longer.

Can I just swap the output shaft and if so, how difficult is it?

TIA.

You have to tear down the transmission to do it.

Thanks for the reply.

I can rebuild engines, but have never taken a transmission apart.

Is this something that can be done by purchasing an ATSG manual and following it? Any special tools needed?

I'm trying to keep this as low budget as possible. Used transmissions run ~ 700 around here

I believe there's a few special tools needed for the teardown and reassembly of an E4OD, I know a planetary puller is one of them.

Yeah, they even make videos of how to rebuild these... the average mechanically inclined person should probably be able to rebuild one following a good guide. Just make sure you keep the parts extremely clean.
