94 Tranny Noise at 60mph+

My 94 FS 4-speed od trans works great but has been making a groaning noise ONLY at 60+mph. Backing off throttle stops noise and reapplying gas will return it. Replaced fluid (203000 miles), it was burnt and dark brown and I bought it with fluid way overfull. If I modulate throttle, noise will go away. It sounds a lot like coming from torque converter area, and sounds a lot like you have a dry or rusty bearing humming. Normal operation, I did have one-time rev rise to 3500 a while, dropped back down. Happened once. Please help :)

203,000 miles....:shocked
Overfull for who knows how long.....:twak
Dark and burnt fluid.....:doh0715:
A low groan at 60+mph.....:banghead
Dude, your tranny is dieing. I just went through the same thing with 130,000 miles, clean fluid, and at the proper levels. Wasn't long before my bronco wouldn't climb a hill on pavement without losing power and a horrible clunking sound that I could FEEL in the floorboard.
Got a new tranny now!:thumbup
Can I rebuild it? Is it not possibly the torque converter?
Btw I'm second owner and let me tell you, that engine is in excellent shape. Burns clean. Makes excellent torque. Rig is almost like new in and out.
