What the hell is up with this? If the windows are rolled down, with the A/C off, it whines like a little bitch. When it's on Max A/C, it makes the same whine. I usually keep it on normal (doesn't do the whine, and when I have it on max and floor it the A/C cuts completely off and blows room temp air through the floor and defrost vents until I let off the pedal for a few seconds) and it's fine....but the other day it was nice so I rolled down the windows instead of using the A/C and it started making that annoying ass whining sound.

Any ideas? I thought it was odd...my girlfriend says the A/C's mad at me for not using it, and it gets mad when I push it too far, so it starts screaming at me :histerica

You may find one or some of your A/C / heater ducts have been cracked or smashed and need replacing. My wifes vehicle (which shall remain nameless) whined, moaned and whistled especially at highway speeds. I had to replace the heater core (2 days and dash out, PITA) while in there I replaced the broken ducts....noise gone.

Damnit. I don't have time to take my dash apart, I can barely afford my truck being off it's feet to have her rotors installed.

I guess I'll just live with it :cry

My wifes' vehicle is not a Bronco. I know changing the heater core does not take very long at all. Have a look under the dash. It may be something obvious.

the a/c compressor turning off at WOT is perfectly normal, my dad's van does it (chevy) my truck does it, etc. it's so that the engine does not have the power loss of turning the a/c compressor. basically, it's saying "you need FULL power NOW, why starve you of said power?"

and, it does it whether you're in defrost, normal, or max. it doesn't matter.

dunno about the whining though.

I have seen the air flow change from the dash to the floor and windshield under heavy load many times......99% of them were caused by a vacuum leak somewhere. Get yourself a vacuum gauge and see if you cant find a cracked vacuum line.

If you search this forum, you will find some info I am sure.

The wine....I dont know about. Its hard to diagnose a problem that is a sound when you cant hear it?????

I have seen that as normal on newer cars/trucks.....like my GF's 2000 Volvo has that "feature" for the exact purpose you stated.....you got the AC on, and need full power to pass or merge. Once you romp on it the ECU realizes that you want full power now and turns off the compressor for a few seconds and then back on again

when i go WOT it turns off and stays off until i take the pedal off the floor. once it comes off the floor, bam, cold air.

I think youve discovered that the heater core isn't the problem already, but incase you were wondering, if you take your glove box out, your heater core is in a box behind there. Just pop the cover off, and there it is.

Thanks for all the information.

InkDawg, I know it doesn't take long to do the rotors, and it's not hard, I'm not saying that....but If I had a steady two hours to do it without something else jumping in the way, It'd be easier :thumbup

SC88, I know that at WOT it should do that, but it usually stays off until I get off and slow down to around 65-75 (not sure why?) maybe that's just how they are.

Darc, thanks. I may need that little tip in the future :thumbup

I'll check it when I go to Ed's house sometime in the next few weeks (if we get arrangements up)
