Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows if there is an age requirement to buy pepper spray? Im a month from being 18 and looking to help out a friend. One of my female friends works downtown, often during night. When leaving work, she's been followed multiple times by homeless people. Today she was followed 10 miles by a guy in his car who just kept smiling at her (Said he was probably 30). She would stop at a red light, then he would pull next to her. He would then cut infront of her when it turned green. He followed her almost all the way back to her neighborhood but she cut off into a different one and lost him. I jumped her for not calling police/or someone to tell them what was happening. She's kind of an easy target since shes about 5 foot, 90-100 pounds. Shes also probably targeted since shes a 16 year old girl driving a 2004 Mercedes. Any ideas, or comments you guys have to help me/her out would be great.

Thanks,
Boomballs

Put some thought behind it: if you can't get it at 17, how is it going to be legal for her to carry it at 16? :shrug

Don't misunderstand, I don't want her to get hurt either. But it'd be crappy for her to get a weapons charge or something stupid if an officer decides to search her purse for whatever reason later. Everything I can find says pepper spray is legal in Kansas (which is funny since evolution isn't  ), but nothing about an age limit.

I think you'd be 100% better off getting someone from her work place to escort her to her vehicle.

Usually she does walk with someone else to her car, bad thing is it's usually a female also. Not a lot of guys that work there. Some nights it ends up one of us driving to downtown to walk her out/ follow her back to the west side. Self defence class is something I'm trying to get her to do, but she hasn't said yes to that idea yet...

She needs to get those plate numbers on shitheads like that also. Arm her with anything thats legal. If you get pepper spray, get one of those bigger ones with the trigger, it might be cumbersome but she could hose him down with it if needed.
If she were my friend/daughter I would want her armed to the teeth. Walk to the car with spray in one hand and a zapper in the other.

butane based mace followed by tazer:goodfinge:enforce

i think its 18 to buy it but in most states there isnt a rule on carrying it. hell my middle school allowed kids that walked home to have either mace or a stun guy on their person, but if they used it during a fight they would be charged with a weapon in school grounds. i knew several kids that had it in high school.

when i worked as a handy man for a rental company i carried police grade OC incase i got attacked by a dog, my dad got attacked doing the same thing and the company wouldnt let me carry my pistol :banghead:banghead

just google your state statutes and look into it.

a tazer wouldnt be a bad option, but they are expensive and require training.

when she turns 21 get her to take a ccw class and buy a pistol to go along with her permit. plus carry mace, its always good to have a nonlethal alternative for some drunk that isnt in their right state of mind but does need to be dealt with.

I've taught a few of the girls I know, need to teach them all, to clean, load, handle, and shoot a rifle, pistol, and shotgun. More than likely none of them will ever carry a pistol when the time comes however.

Probably end up getting her at least a small can of spray for now and keep trying to push her into a self defense class. Probably drive out for the late nights she works (should be great with bronco gas mileage). Tasers are a bit expensive.

tell her if she's being followed again ,, don't drive home! call the police, try to get a plate # and drive to the nearest police station, or get somewhere public with alot of poeple around,If creep know where she lives that can be very bad. Like jump her when she get out of her car and she thinks she safe at home. This is a very f#cked up world we live in and thats why I legally always carry a pistol with me for the last 19 years.

Call the police next time... and have her map out where all the police stations are between her work and her house. If the guy gets behind her again, tell her to call the cops and stay on the line with them as she leads the guy to the nearest station.

Why are you threatening me??:goodfinge

the laws are different from state to state, in MA you can not use deadly force unless there no other option, like if your in your own house and theres no way out and your life in dananger you can shoot, thats why they joke about backing yourself in a corner, then shoot, not to sure but in TX you have the right to shoot some one on you property. Doesn't matter if it's concealed or not, if you pull a gun out, you shoot to kill or don't bother having it.
