Wondering if all 1/2 tons are rated ONLY with a weight distr hitch for their max tow ratings. For that matter, are 3/4-1 tons rated like this also??

I found it for a 2008 DC LTD 4x4, look that they dont tell you your max tow is 5K unless you have a WDH...its bad game all manufacturers play.

It surprised me actually.

Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 5000
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 500
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 10300
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 1030

2008 DC 4x2:

Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 5000
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 500
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 10500
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 1050

our superduty 250 is 5k non distributing, but is 10k weight distributing.

you can go buy a new hitch and bolt on and not use the WD hitch. but I think it tows alot better with that hitch on there. Plus I am able to open my gate without it hitting the trailer jack in the front.

I tow 8600, with no WD
I have towed around that as well when I broke one of the spring bar holders on the WD hitch. Had no choice, had to make it home.

Common knowledge with any tow rating. Manufacturers almost always use the highest number for good advertising and put the conventional or bumper pull rating in the fine print.
