When my lights come on, after a while, my alternator stops working... and gets really hot.

I've replaced the alternator, which failed the light test at the parts store...... and I've replaced the panel light switch, just in case. What more do I need to be looking for?

Have you checked your voltage regulator? Sounds like a bad electrical connection or relay or something. Wish I could be of more help.

I'd start checking into the wiring, looking for a a wire with to high a resistance. maybe a partially melted fusible link

try doing a voltage drop test between the alternater output and the positive post of the battery with the truck running, with your accersiores all off, and with your accesories all on.
should definatly be no more than .5V

Problem solved!

The problem was a bad ground. I hooked up jumper cables from the alternator body to the negative post on the battery, and the problem disappeared!
