So this past weekend I installed a set of white reverse glow gauge overlays. got it all done, backed out of the garage to take it on a test drive to make sure everything works hit the straight away in my subdivision and HOLY HELL!!!!!! :shocked the hood flips up at 30mph........
guess who is the dumbass who forgot to close the hood all the way after reconnecting the batteries.......... :banghead this has got to be the most expensive set up gauge overlays yet because the hood is now FUBARED the hood hinges are also wrecked

I got the hood back down and most of the way realigned you can't really tell the hood is tweeked but I know its there looks like time for a new hood.........

thought i would share my crappy weekend

that bites.

I had a similar thing happen to me on my 66 Chevy rod project. I was doing carb work and we had the hood off. Well when we got done and wanted to drive it we just layed in back on and let the latch mech hold it down on the front. I was thinking that will hold it, were not going anywhere special. Test drove it and got home and ended up getting preoccupied cleaning up tools then dinner. It sat overnight and the next am on my way to work I was giving the engine some wood and 30-35 mph I see the hood come up 5 inches then down and then woosh up and over the cab. It ended up on its top in the middle of the street. I was embarrassed and pissed all in one. Luckily the rig was in its primered stage so no paint got ruined but a week later the thing cought fire at the gas pumps.

HAHAHAHA!!! Mine flipped open at 25mph. I had starter problems before, and after I got my parking lot repair done, didn't realize I hadn't shut my hood all the way, and the F'er flipped open in front of the Chevron, so I slid to a stop in the middle lane, jumped out, slammed it shut, and went home

I understand your embarassment :goodfinge

Haha all I could picture as I was reading this was that scene in "Tommy Boy" when they are crusing down the highway and the hood flips open and then they start screaming. All because he had like an oil can or something jammed in the engine when they were at the gas station :toothless

On my way home from wheeling this weekend, after driving for over an hour, I stopped at a gas station. As I was filling up I noticed my truck up on the trailer's hood was unlatched. I can't see the hood looking normally in the mirrors while driving so it's a good thing it didn't fly open cause I wouldn't of even know about it.

I had this same thing happen to me. The dudes that sprayed my bedliner went to pull my truck in their shop and, they didnt know there was a button under my dash u have to hold while turning the key (even though i told them about it) soo they decided to open my hood (god knows why those bedliner monkeys didnt know what they were even looking for)and didnt close it all the way. anyways on the way home i was getting on the freeway and i was going like 55 and my hood flew up and i swerved into the grass on the shoulder. i was pissed and after 20 minutes of hitting my hood w/ a socket wrench, i went back up there told them they should have called me if they couldnt start my truck, and they shouldnt be jacking w/ stuff their not supposed to and finallly they agreed to pay for a new hood when i get it.

That happened to me in my 67 Bronco on the freeway. Only problem was, wasn't my error.. Hood latch just straight up broke. Anyhow. 65 miles down the freeway, looking through the little air gap holes was quite a thrill. Got the Bronco pulled over and looked at the hood. The hood was bent halfway over the roof. So, I straightened out the hood as straight as possible, along with jumping on it when reattached.. Grabbed some bailing wire, tied that sombitch up and headed on to our destination.. Scary, but, my bro and I were too busy laughing to be scared..

Ok, as long as we're sharing when I was stupid stories. When you hear that you should recheck the torque on your lugnuts after 100 miles......do it! The decision to trim my rear fenders became much easier after the tire came up to meet the metal at about 35mph one day. Yeah...it was all my fault too.

I had my hood fly open when I was doing 70 mph in South Dakota heading to the Black Hills. I thought it was pretty funny how I reacted...

(driving along with cruise at 70)

FWAPPPP!!!!

(thought to myself for a couple seconds, no immediate reaction)

"Hmm, I can't see", I thought to myself.

(took off cruise control and looked at gap between hood and cowl, moved truck over till white line was visible on my left & leisurely slowed down to a stop.)

Luckily I had a sun visor so the hood was only sticking straight up instead of being folded back over the roof and shattering the windshield. I simply pulled the hood back down and jumped on it to close and latch it.
