I keep getting this pop-up: winfixer.com/download/2006/?p=20&ex=1&ax=2&aid=vm_tz_wfx6kw_8&lid=registry

I get it almost everytime I open up my browser. I'm not a PC person so I have no idea how to get rid of it. Cleared out cookies, temp internet filed, temp files, idle programs I don't use anymore almost everything I could think of and it still comes up. How do I get rid of it?

don't click it, it asks you to download a program.

Do you run any basic maintenance on your computer? I am assuming your running XP. Have you run diskcleanup, defragmenter, and do you have spyware protection?

Fortunately I have a pop-up blocker so the download box/window doesn't work like it should for me to download the program like they had intended. I have diskcleanup and defragmenter but not the spyware protection.

It's definetly spyware...you should go ahead and invest some time into getting Avast!, Spybot S&D, and AdAware. All free, all easy to use, they'll all get the job done. Just download, update and run all of those, restarting between each scan. (ex. You run Avast, Restart. You run SS&D, restart. Then run AdAware, then restart.) Disk cleanup and defrag if you want (I would suggest it) and you'll be done.

If the problem persists, download HiJack This and put it in a folder (NOT your desktop, because it cannot create backups there. Put it in My Documents, your Program Files, anywhere but the desktop.) and run it. Post the ENTIRE log here and I'll take a look at it.

Mozilla Firefox is a great browser, and stopped getting all the viruses like IE did.

www.analogx.com
Then search for POW.
Great pop up blocker if it is still there.

Your infected.

THE FREEWARE AND SHAREWARE CRAP IS JUNK IMHO!

I was recetnly privledged to try out about 5 trojans, hijackers and viri thanks to my damn step son using my computer while I was recovering in the hospital from having my appendix out.

Do these steps:

1) Purchase and install Symantec. I tried 6 different programs, and this is the only one that FIXED EVERYTHING.

2) Ditch using IE, and start using Firefox.

Should I run all 3 at the same time, or one after the other?

Just run each in succession. Don't run them at the same time. It's not necessary to restart (unless the program tells you so) but I do just in case, because sometimes certain items are found that can only be deleted before the OS is fully booted. I just restart after every scan just to make sure, I'm thourough though.

Please, REMEMBER to update!

I had a problem similar to this. In your tools menu go to Internet options. In the advanced menu you should have a option for window messenger. Turn off everything to do windows messenger. This is backdoor some of the pop up people use

Ok, all 3 programs installed and ran........:shocked All the files they found. It'll probably be later tonight or tomorrow before I can give you an update on if it worked or not. However, when I opened up the browser (let the program do it's thing while I watched tv) after the scans, the Winfixer window still popped, but didn't load anything?

There is a command I used to completely remove windows messenger.

If you prefer to remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and enter the following command:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Here the link I got it from..
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger_remove.htm

Yea if your getting pop ups you got spyware/adware
here some programs I use
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Ad-Aware Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Zone Alarm Firewall (best firewall out IMO)[little bit hard to setup for newer users, just read the help sections you should be fine]
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...sp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=dbtopnav_zass

AVG Anti-Virus Free [with the free version you have to manually delete the viruses yourself, pretty easy] Updates daily, i also heard it scans for coding which most scanners don't?
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

If your new to hijackthis, be very careful as this program scans strictly. Dont want to get rid of something you need. Make sure you post up your results if you are going to use it.

If you got any questions if you are going use zone alarm let me know, be glad to help.

Edit-Dont uninstall IE, you need it for Windows updates

Also forgot download firefox and use it, you wont regret it, i got mine running very fast.

Here is tweaker for firefox, I ran it noticed it being alot faster plus theres other cool tweakes too

Flexbeta FireTweaker XP

Ok, I'm still getting the pop up but instead of the normal window, it'll pop up and the header will say "Error Detected" and the window will be a blank white page. The address will still be in the address bar though. Here's what I see *****WARNING: SUPER huge pic...for some reason my pic editing programs won't let me resize*****: http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/registry/showmedia.php?id=284931&original=1

weird, run Spybot, adware SE again
Make sure your doing the fixes for IE on spybot, and doing all the scans on Adware SE
also do you have a firewall other than window's?
If your virus scanner doesn't have updates left, download avg

Also here is a site for scanning single files for, pretty good uses many scanners. (Might wanna bookmark that one, p2p whores)
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

also Lazaruss go here and run the full scan off the site. (use IE)
http://www.pcpitstop.com/

CC Cleaner (nice program for scanning for issues and cleaning up the comp)

Post your HiJack This log and let me take a look at it.

Remember, put HJT somewhere OTHER THAN YOUR DESKTOP. I usually put it in My Documents, just because I put everything in there.

Edit:

Also, clear your TEMP file, it's located at C:\WINDOWS\Temp if you have your HDD set to C drive (default). Just delete everything from there. sometimes they hide there.
