About 30 miles down the the highway the tranny drops out of gear al together, I back off the gas It slips back in but keeps on going back and forth until I shut it off. After I shut it off I can go another several miles (almost 30) before it does it again. This is not a regular event I can go days or even weeks between incidents. In addition around town out of nowhere it will start hard shifting between all gears and down shifting on its own from OD to 3rd when I back off the gas. Is it a computer problem or mechanical? or is it just moody!

Your post is interesting because my tranny will slip like someone took it out of gear (when cold) and eventually will catch. Someone told me "get ready for a rebuild", someone else said his tranny has acted up for a years never really went out. So I want to know what we can find out. But I would say if it pops out of gear and won't go, you may be putting your life at risk, as well as others. Did you get any codes? It does sound like you are close to a rebuild. :-[

No codes or even an engine check light, this has been going on for about a year. I keep waiting for it to slip out and not go back in. I am saving for a rebuild.
