Had one on my 1971 FJ55 Landcruiser as well. Was for the PTO. Pretty cool. If you Google 'Manafree' (L/C specialists in Cali) you might be able to find a diagram that'll give you some more ideas.

I know my cruise control for my truck uses a beaded chain for the cruise control linkage.

In that case I don't see why some #150 pound test plastic-covered steel fishing leader wouldn't work as well?...........

Definitely need it. 95% of the time, the cheesy cable operated hand throttles aren't completely smooth and bind just a little, especially if they get used a lot.

The chain link resolves that problem.

And uh, I think I'd skip the fishing line. :duh

Plastic coated steel leader---not monofilament. Huge diff. Measure, cut to length, make your loops, crimp and install. Should last a lot longer than that wimpy lamp-chain stuff.

(Edit---this would be just for the throttle lever itself--not from the dash forward).........
