I'm replacing my shot auto hubs with manuals.
The instructions say to remove: capscrews, cap assembly, lock ring, body assembly, washer, and retaining ring.

I'm not sure what the "washer" and "retaining ring" are. Are they referring to the C washer and splined spacer?

The way I read it I'm supposed to take off everything outside of the locknut.

Also, It doesn't say anything about the bearing race, bearing, spring retainer, and bearing race spring. These are not needed with the new manual hubs, right?

Please advise,

auto hubs

I have just replaced my auto hubs with some Premium Superwinch hubs. You don't need a conversion kit if you need to know. There are two snap rings, one on the axle shaft and one behind the hub. They both need only pliars, you just squeeze the two ends of the internal snap ring and pull the hub at the same time. Make sure you put the screws back in the hub to use as handles to make it easier to pull off. Forget the washer mumbo jumbo, if you get the axle shaft snap ring off it will all fall out and you don't have to worry about what all the sh** is called. Good Luck!!!
