Arizona Blue Line Build

My plan for my 92 XLT Bronco is to take it from mostly stock original to slightly custom but completely drivable and reliable. I’m calling it the Blue Line build because I intend for this Bronco to be the Ivory to my Ebony. The Ivory is Oxford White ext, charcoal int, with minor upgrades from stock to front suspension and 4” lift. The Ebony is my 2011 Crown Vic, retired Elkwood City, CA police car (black ext, med flint int, aluminum K9 box in rear seat area, P71 package). I am also retired LEO so blue naturally becomes the accent on nearly everything I own. My husband is just happy I don’t like pink! So keep watching for the changes and the blue!

Fred is user @Quader1 here on FSB.com. He hasnt been in the best of health for a while now so he may not be very active over there either. @not a jeep is down there too. I met him and blue1551 in Moab. Both good guys. @itwasfree!!! was highly active down there before cancer slowed him down a bit. But i think (and hope) he is still kickin. Im like you, not much for large groups, but they can be fun. I had a grand ol time at the couple bronco events ive been to in Moab and Michigan. Everyone is real nice and friendly.

I feel like @BroncMom would enjoy this thread too... You sound like you'll fit in just fine here!

As for the visor, i used and have suggested riv-nuts or nut-serts for installing them. When doing so, i coated them with a small glob of architectural silicone caulk, including the threaded hole. Then screw the fastener in and it will be watertight. They also allow use of a 1/4-20 machine screw or bolt instead of a cheap grade two self-tapper.

And for the love of all that is holy, be careful with the visor! The original Lund models are no longer made and the Summit ones look like crap. And they are about 300 bucks on ebay or CL.
Thanks for the info on fellow Bronco peeps and the Rivnuts. Being very ginger handed with the visor. Gonna try to clean up the paint as best I can before putting it back on. I’m trying to figure out how to create some bolt caps for whatever I use to put it back on. 2 of the originals disintegrated when I tried to take them off. And most of the others received some damage to the white coating. Plus they most likely won’t fit any new fasteners.

I lied. She was ready for exhaust, emissions test, and registration. After a quick inspection of brakes, steering and suspension, took her to get new exhaust and cat. Went without a muffler for now. Gonna give the ridiculously loud Mitsubishi speed racers that go up and down my street H-E-L-L for a bit before I put on a muffler. She’s loud and proud for now!

She passed emissions test with flying colors! And it still amazes me that a vehicle made 10 years after I finished high school qualifies for historic plates. So she is now deemed road worthy by the State of Arizona!

But I’m still working on her. More to come…

I have some of the caps, most black, some with maybe white or red flaking paint. Would be nothing to mail a couple your way. But like you said, depending on fastener, they may not fit. I used stainless socket head cap screws.

The paint on my 3 junkyard visors was mostly okay and might have buffed back up to shiney. But i needed it gray so i painted mine. It is a good idea to paint the underside, to seal up the fiberglass better.

You're moving right along with creating your vision... Yay for your guys 👍 is nice when a plan starts coming together...
Tip on refreshing the paint where the visor was... Hopefully it's just the clear coat that's stained (and looking at it that's honestly what it looks like)... I would cut n buff... Or at the very least clay bar and buffing compound after cleaning it and degreasing with a good cleaner like that yellow lightening cleaner from dollar general or that magic sponge thing.... Then a good caranuba paste wax and ceramic coat like Meguiar's or Mother's California gold's (sorry, I'm old school) and I bet she shines like a new penny 😁

Thanks. I’ll let you know if I need some caps. And good tip on painting under side.

That’s exactly my plan. Brilliant minds think alike!

If you do the rivnuts you can get stainless pan head allen screws for a lower profile cleaner appearance and you wont need caps. The caps are available on Amazon, McMaster Carr, and I'm sure other places if you need some.

Made a little more progress on Blue Line Bronco Project. Here’s the before.

Got all the interior trim and carpet out.

Cleaned up the bare interior. Patched 10 holes in the shell top with fiberglass repair kit.

Taped in some insulation on the doors and the rear floor. Installed new original size door speakers.

Deleted some jacked up hillbilly add-on wires under the dash. Deleted the 4 inch tall pieces of 2 inch PVC and 6 inch lag screws that were elevating the center console. And finally, installed the new front carpet, old filthy seats, and and new floor mats.

Rear carpet and door panels will go in tomorrow. All the trim needs to be cleaned before it goes in and so does the seat upholstery. But the seats will wait until the new headliner fabric comes in. I'm planning on using some of it on the seats. So I will clean the upholstery parts I plan to reuse, then build new seat upholstery with a combination of original and new fabrics, add some foam to the seats, and rebuild the drivers arm rest.

Stay tuned! It's gonna get blue around her pretty soon.

I’m So Excited! I’ll bet you sang that…I sure did!

My headliner and seat fabrics arrived from Great Britain. They are both VW GTI fabrics, same plaid, two color ways. The lighter one with navy stripe in it will be the headliners and sun visors. The black one with royal blue stripe will be accents on the seats and potentially on the dash pad, door panel accents, and maybe even on the center console lid.
I can’t wait to start glueing and sewing!

Rectangle Grille Textile Mesh Flooring

I wasn’t expecting the fabric to arrive for another week, so I hadn’t started prepping the headliner boards. That changed today. Stripped fabric off both boards, and scrubbed the foam off the front board and sanded it. So serious headliner gluing should start tomorrow!

Nice. You doing a thin foam under the headliner or just the material?

The fabric has thin foam and scrim bonded to it.

Almost forgot, got the door panels and all lower trim in place, for now. Upper trim will go in as soon as I finish the headliners. I found some replacement Christmas tree trim clips at the JY the other day. They came out of an 01 or 03 Explorer, but they are the right grey. I also grabbed a bunch of blue ones out of a 90’s Explorer if anyone needs them. I’ll mail for free. The JY likes me and gave me all my smalls the last 2 trips for free.

Another day, another little bit of progress.

I got the cab roof paint cleaned up the other day thanks to tips from @BroncMom. Also painted the underside of the visor, also a tip from @BigBlue 94. Rivnuts and install tool are being delivered on Tuesday, so visor is going back on soon!

I got the cab headliner fabric glued to the backer board. And got it and the upper trim reinstalled.

Working on stripping the fabric off the sun visors to recover them to match headliner right now.

Stay tuned!

One sun visor done! One more to go.

I stripped the old fabric off the visors and held the naked visors in place inside the bronco to mark the location of the stripes so the plaid would match on the headliner and the visors. Then I used the cardboard as a pattern to cut the new fabric.

Rectangle Textile Bag Wood Pattern

I used instant bond fabric glue to adhere the fabric to the inside edges of the cardboard. Then I folded the cardboard around the hardboard inserts and hand sewed the two sides together with an awl and waxed contrasting thread.

That is so cool! I never would have thought of lining up the fabric like that. Nice work.

I had to. One of the plaid headliners I found that inspired me had visors that not only didn’t line up, but the plaid was turned 90 degrees from the headliner. That would have driven me crazy!
