Arizona Blue Line Build

My plan for my 92 XLT Bronco is to take it from mostly stock original to slightly custom but completely drivable and reliable. I’m calling it the Blue Line build because I intend for this Bronco to be the Ivory to my Ebony. The Ivory is Oxford White ext, charcoal int, with minor upgrades from stock to front suspension and 4” lift. The Ebony is my 2011 Crown Vic, retired Elkwood City, CA police car (black ext, med flint int, aluminum K9 box in rear seat area, P71 package). I am also retired LEO so blue naturally becomes the accent on nearly everything I own. My husband is just happy I don’t like pink! So keep watching for the changes and the blue!

I had to. One of the plaid headliners I found that inspired me had visors that not only didn’t line up, but the plaid was turned 90 degrees from the headliner. That would have driven me crazy!
The crooked lines on the visitor when they're down would drive me batty...
So what happens if you decide to add a shelf it storage shelf after all this? Your lines might not line up anymore 😮

That headliner is sweet.
Good attention to detail.

I would just have to cover the shelf in plaid so they ALL line up!

It's a chick thing 😏 that's also why we never buy a plaid shirt from wish 😂
It’s an OCD thing! I sent the pic to my daughter with no message. Her reply was “You’re so OCD😂” And she’s right!
By the way, she has asked that I leave the Bronco to her when I die 🤨

Ocd & chick are kinda synonymous 😂 I've already got both my boys (26&18) fighting over who gets mine...🙄 Told them I was gonna be buried in it so just stop 😂

I was a machinist for 21+ yrs, and a gunsmith for 10 (officially), another 10-20yrs, I have my own ocd........
So, I get it.
I used to build custom consoles, in between front seats, in the back (for jeeps), overhead, both center and across the front...

More progress today.
Finished the passenger side sun visor and installed it. It was trickier than the driver side because of the mirror. Didn’t try to remove the mirror. Just went right over it and at the end, cut out a hole in the center of it, leaving about 1/2” of new fabric covering the mirror. Then I squirted some glue under the fabric, on the board around the mirror. Had to be careful not to get glue on the mirror cover. Waited for glue to dry then trimmed fabric back to about 1/4” overlay.

Then used a putty knife to carefully stuff the fabric under the edge of the mirror frame.

Stitched around the outside edges then installed. Love it!

Installed the rivet nuts yesterday and the visor today.

Then gave this dirty Bronco a bath! Now it’s time for some weatherstripping (cause doors and back window leak). And some undercarriage love.

Any suggestions for getting the rust off the fiberglass top. The roof rack the PO had up there was extremely rusty and leaking all over the roof. I don’t want to use something that will take the paint and texture off.

White cleaning vinegar (30% cleaning vinegar) soak some towels and let sit overnight... Or...Pour or spray 3% to 4% hydrogen peroxide over the area with rust stains. Use a nylon brush or a cleaning pad safe to use on natural stones to agitate the solution. Let it sit for at least 24 hours, and then rinse afterward...or... That magic eraser sponge thingy... Or...One of those remove rust from your stone foundation kinda cleaners but just read the warnings to make sure they're paint safe

I might try a little Soft Scrub with bleach. Test it in a small area 1st. If it doesn't work right away, soak a paper towel with it & let it soak for a bit. I haven't tried it on a top, but have had good success on many tender surfaces over the years.

Those visors came out great, match both up and down, pretty awesome

I forgot about soft scrub. I thought about bleach, but didn’t want it running all over the place. Good idea!

I’ll try the vinegar first. I use it for everything in the house already. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it for this. Thanks.

Good day at the JY yesterday. Found a passenger seat in an F150 that exactly matches my seats except tan in excellent condition. One hour and $43 later I have new old foam for my broken down driver seat when I redo the upholstery. As a bonus, I have a seat frame and a tan cloth cover I can clean up and sell or give away. Not gonna lie though, I had to roll around in the most dog hair I’ve ever seen in a vehicle, and I’ve seen A LOT of dog hair in my career! And today I steamed the foam and I cannot describe the foul smell that the seat bottom foam emitted 🤢

I also picked up 3 dome lights. Two with map lights and one that I think is the same as the rear cargo area light. So those will also need new homes.
I’m headed back tomorrow, as they set a 1995 F150 today and tomorrow is 20% off everything for Easter. Hopefully the resellers haven’t hit it yet.

Oh, and my husband/mechanic started replacing the shocks. Huge difference with just rears done. One was so bad, when he pulled the lower bolt, the whole tube fell off and left the stem dangling off the upper bolt. Oil went everywhere! I think it was time for shocks!

And then to top it off, my son’s ship made it back to port last night and I was able to talk to him about his first at sea experience today 💙⚓💛 My heart is happy tonight.

Front shocks happened yesterday. The stabilizer shocks we’re still good , just ugly. So I cleaned them up, painted black, and put black boots on them. Looking good. Driving even better. Eliminated nearly all of the wander. Can see some slop in the pitman movement so that will probably be the next mechanical project in 2 weeks.

In the meantime, I’ll try to get the rear headliner done and get started on degreasing the undercarriage.

I hit the new truck in the junkyard. Unfortunately the dash bezel was already busted. But got the climate control module and a passenger door handle that is still black. Both door panels were pretty torn up, too bad because I could have used them for practice removing and recovering the accent panel.

You might want to look into superlift steering system, wouldnt need that stabilizer and it makes huge improvement on lifted bronco steering geometry. or a tre flip at least. Just my thoughts

Might look into that later. Just trying to get it running and somewhat reliable right now. Still have oil leaks everywhere. But it does have some bad bushings making the front end pop while turning, so looking into that may come sooner rather than later if we have to tear the whole front end apart anyway. Thanks for the recommend though. That’s exactly why I’m on here. I know lots of you have already researched and tried different solutions and found what works best for these trucks. Saves me time, money, and grief!

Elbows deep in rear headliner right now. Waiting for glue to dry on first section. Wish me luck!

Popping when turning sounds more like ball joints than bushings to me...

That’s what we thought too. But when we had the front end off the ground after putting on the new shocks, we were able to get it to pop and saw that it’s this joint behind the front diff. Ball joints are all tight and look like they have been replaced. Not recently, but not too long ago.

Axle u-joints will do that too.

So will overtightened spindle nuts at 75 mph...
