Back Glass Upper Run Weather Stripping

22409 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  you.arestupid
I ordered some weather stripping for the upper run of the back glass for both of my Broncos, as it's rotten and broken on both of them, resulting in water leaks. I ordered some from National Parts Depot, but upon inspecting the package, it says it's weather stripping for 78-79s. Will this stuff work on a 92-96?

This is the stuff I got - item AA on Page 133

http://npd.dirxion.com/WebProject.asp?BookCode=boc10flx&from=2#

"Weatherstrip, Top rear window, upper and side."

Is it the same stuff for the 92-96s? My gut says no, but I don't want to take it out of the packaging to check. :doh0715:

Should I have instead ordered this stuff on the next page, Pg 134?

"Weatherstrip, roof rear side, LH & RH" ?

Not sure, call them or check the catalog and see if the part number crosses over from 78-79 to 80-96.
It doesn't look the same, and I can't find the equivalent for 80-96s on NPD, either. Weird. They have every other piece of rubber for all models, but I am not seeing the back glass upper run for 80-96s. I typically order from LMC but I got it from NPD just because the shipping was $10 less. That's what I get for trying to change things up. I hope they don't charge me a 20% restocking fee.

Camper Top Location Diagram #1; "...There's 1 weatherstrip across the back of the cab that slips onto a lip of steel, and a reinforced rubber trim that covers another lip, but it doesn't seal anything. Then there's a foam rubber gasket glued under each side of the shell, terminating in a large foam block at the tailgate. So that's a total of 4 pieces, but only 3 are seals. Only the weatherstrip on the cab is marked in the 1st diagram, but all are shown in cross-section..."

Thanks for the info, misek. I called NPD back and told them about the mix-up. They were cool with it and allowed me to return the weatherstripping without any restocking fee. Thank God! They do not stock the glass upper run weatherstripping for 80-96 Broncos. So I went with trusty ol' LMC. The weatherstripping came on the UPS truck about a half hour ago, and I spent the last 10 minutes putting it on. Beautiful, flawless, and I don't have to worry about getting water in the bed anymore! Huzzah!

I just used a narrow trim removal tool and a pair of flatnose pliers, although just the pliers probably would've gotten the job done just fine. The weatherstripping is only held in by two long retainer clips on each side. I easily yanked them out just by grabbing the lower part of the weatherstripping on each side and firmly tugging them out. No tools necessary. My new weatherstripping only came with one clip for each side, so I just reused two of the old clips to remount the new stuff. Aside from being dusty the old clips were still in great shape so it wasn't a big deal.

I started by reinserting all of the clips on both sides into the top, and then I started from one side and slowly pushed the weatherstripping into the upper run channel. It has a "lip" on the outside trim portion that catches onto the top and holds it in place. To keep me from wearing my fingers out, I used the flatnose pliers to push it up into place. It took less than 10 minutes to do, and is going to save me from a lot of headaches in the future.

My other Bronco has the exact same issue where the outer portion of the stripping on the drivers side has cracked and is starting to break off. It hasn't gotten as bad as my 96, but I bought a second strip to go ahead and replace that one, too. It's just good preventative maintenance.

Everyone else check the drivers side upper run weatherstripping. If it is cracked or broken off like both of mine are, replace it ASAP before you get water in your bed and have much bigger issues to deal with.

I just did the upper in the cap of my 88 and got my rubber from Jeff's. It didn't require reusing the clips, just popped right in.
i bought my rubber from lmctruck.com and it was an exact fit no issues at all.

It was the long single piece, miesk. It looks to be OEM-spec for both my '93 and my '96. It didn't come in an LMC-branded bag. Both of mine came sealed in "Precision Replacement Parts Corp." bags. The LMC catalog number is 49-9461. I've been buying most of my new stuff from LMC since the dealer recommended I go there to get the rear beltline weatherstripping. Since then I've bought the beltline weatherstripping x 2, a few window anti-rattle kits, the upper glass run weatherstripping x 2, a couple of pedal covers, door hinge springs, and other random goodies, and I've been extremely happy with everything I've bought from them. Their weatherstripping prices are on par and cheaper than most other places and the shipping is fast. And more importantly the parts always fit.

So for posterity, if anyone in the future stumbles across this thread looking for weatherstripping, LMC is a reliable route to take.

yo,
Thanks for the info!
i don't mean to hijack your thread but my question is related seemed silly to start a new thread. my bronco is an 80 is it possible or even worth my time to look in junk yard for weatherstripping?
