OK, I had a ECC IV ignition in my 82 351w Cali Bronco. I swapped it out for a MSD 6AL ignition and a Duraspark II dist out of a Non Cali 82 351w Bronco.
So what do I set my base timing to? If anyone knows how much mech adv. there is I would really like to know that to.

BTW: The ECC IV was non adjustable and has no info for setting base timeing on the core support or hood...

Like the man said, most V8 Fords run perty well on 10* base timing.

Duraspark distributors can vary a lot as to their built in mechanical advance. The most sure way to tell what your particular one has is to strip it down to the weights and read the number stamped onto the legs of the rotor shaft ass'y. It'll be something like 12, 14, 16 etc...which is an expression of distributor degrees. You'll have to double that to get the amount of advance in crankshaft degrees.
While you're in there is a good time to put a tiny dab of light grease on the pins that the weights swivel on and the edges that rub the advance mechinism.
