What’s the best/correct battery that fits the stock tray? Every parts house website lists group 56 batteries, but I’m always seeing people say group 65 is what to get. Is there a clear answer to that?

Have you compared dimensions on both?

Where are the terminals on both?

I did some measuring, and it looks like a 65 will just barely squeeze in there.
While I was at it, I realized the PO had put in a group 24 with 650 CCA. The same CCA in 65 is only $50 at Walmart, while 750 CCA goes up to $100 and the $850 CCA is $120.
I’ve read that too high of CCA is detrimental to battery life in hot climates like the Texas coast. Is that true? Or is it with worth it?

All the full size truck use a 65 and so does my mercury. In both I have 1000 cranking amp batteries.

Do you see any issues relating to the higher CCA? I keep seeing online that a higher CCA battery won’t last as long in hot climates

In TX it's more about the heat soak in summer. An average battery will be 850 cranking and 650cca which is fine for a small block but I like more. a super start extreme is 1045 ca 850cca. You want more power when the starter is hot from hours on the highway.

Good to know. So I should get the 850 CCA, 1000 CA one?

For $20, I'm taking that 1000 amper all day long. I just put an older 65 in one of my fox bodies.
(couldn't believe it fit). It only load tests out to around 500 now (like 8 years old), but that is plenty
for a show car fox body, driven only in perfect weather.
