I've heard of those 2 cylinders going lean before, but I think that it's just a coincidence. It seems to me when they lean out, it's always in pairs. If you ask me, I'd say that the injectors were clogged/dirty. When you're running that type of setup, it doesn't take much to screw things up. Once it's screwed up, the computer tries to fix it, i.e. add and remove fuel/spark until it thinks it fixed the problem. If you were already close to the threashold, it may have pushed it over the edge. Who knows.

The Ford programing edits timing from base program to control idle and temp.
If he was running too cold right before it went lean, then maybe (just maybe) you could be correct. There is no way the computer sensed a lean condition and then sent the timing into KILL mode LOL
Why do I always feel like I have to explain myself. I was just saying if he was already at the edge of his limits, it wouldn't take much to push it over. For example Clogged injectors or whatever.
