Ive got a 89 full size w/4.9. I was doing the oil change and noticed that a 6" section of my oil pan gasket is missing. The truck does not leak oil at all, and the level dosent go down. My biggest concern is getting debris in the oil from the exposure to the elements. Is it worth changing the gasket? Could I get away with using some gasket sealer for the time being? Is doing the gasket on a 4.9 truck as mush of a PITA as a v8 truck? Thanks

I would say that some of the out part of the gasket has broken loose. If there isn't any oil coming out where the broken gasket is I would leave it. If there is then you will probably have to drop the pan and put in a new one. As far as difficulty I would guess about the same as a V8. Good luck!
