Finally tore into the sterling yesterday. Dont really know what went wrong but this is what i found. Also while i was knocking out races and cleaing up my carrier i noticed a complete absence of shims of anykind besides the two very thick (.125 or so) on the carrier itself. What could have caused this, still had oil, races didnt spin, and the upper bearing closest to the driveshaft yoke was still good so was the cheap japan u joint.. It happened driving down the freeway. Ordered new 4.88 gears and install kit from gears for less 349.98 now have to trac down a clutch rebuild kit for the factory limited slip. couple more pics on my superford.

what can i do to prevent this from happening in the future? I had fresh oil in it maybe 1500 miles ago and i check it a couple time a month.

its common for 10.25 bearing to over heat and seaise, and then snap.
looking at the coloring, that is what happened.
I'd say you are dead on.

but you're chittin' me, common for the 10.25 to do this? That would really suck.
