I always like a little subtle pinstriping that follows body lines. Not so much the scrolly swirls that frequently end up on tailgates or deck lids. Actual painted stripes kicks up the cool factor in my book, but most of us probably wouldn't notice the difference.

As for those 3 rims, my taste steers away from the center one, but around here they were popular on Chevies when I was growing up & I've always been a Ford guy. It's more of a Camaro/Chevelle rim in my head.

But that's my taste. I wouldn't paint my truck purple either, but I can admire the way you will pull yours together to look good as a complete package. From the work you've done so far, I think it will look sharp when you're done. It'll look good on you. What would look right to me for mine wouldn't necessarily look right for you. My wife has a purple dress that looks great on her, but would look funny on me. I've been saying this a lot lately, it's part of the fun with these to make it your own. To build it to fit your needs & likes.

Personally I've been trying to locate some of these for my hot rod styled 73. I think they're 65 Shelby gt350 rims, & I had 2 of them planned for my 64 Falcon convertible way back when. I never found another pair, so I never ran them. I liked the look & didn't know what they were off of back then. I haven't been able to find them in a 5 on 5.5 yet.

For awhile I was looking at something similar to the old 1960s batmobile rims, a little less gothic, without the bat, while I was trying to figure out what those old Shelby rims actually were. I thought those batmobile-ish rims might work, but prefer the Shelby style rims.

I'm still clueless & scratching my head as to what to run on my 79. But I haven't figured out the big picture on that one yet. It'll probably start out with white spokes if I don't come up with anything else in the meantime, just because they're period correct & I have a set that can be painted.

But I'm an old guy with tastes influenced by his growing up & what I'm thinking about for an older truck. I'm not saying those rims would be right at all for your truck. Just showing some pics of where my head's been recently (and secretely hoping someone knows where to get those Shelbys in a 5 on 5.5 😁). This needs to be all yours & right for your big picture, & we've seen enough of your work to know that it will be. Keep up the good work. 👍

LSU ... Go Mud Dawgs 😂
I have seen the purples offered by ford...I want something with glitz... trying to respect the old with a twist of modern...Or I'd be going with the 1st Gen purple.

Idk on the rims. The center one has really been a car rim, it looks good, but idk about on a 4x4. If you're looking to be different, well, that's the one. Everybody has wagons or directionals. But, if you're not looking for different, but just good, or classic, the wagons have it. Simple classic good looks. The directionals are a bit more snazzy.....
Just my opinion, prob worth what you paid for it, lol......

I grew up looking at cragar 5 points on muscle cars... Probably why I like them 🤷 but I do like the first one you posted too... I'm probably gonna go with the D hole (cragar called them the nomad II). Honestly I just love cragar rims... I'm sure I'll find something that says "that's it!"
I mocked it up with the 5 points just to kinda see it all together... But I'm not 100% sold on it

Also not a fan of the swirly swirl pin striping even tho I can totally appreciate the talent to do it...I just was thinking some subtle gradual degrading thinness under the belt line 🤷 it might be overkill tho and too busy with everything else that's gonna be going on...

Awe thanks 😊 I'm just trying to build what's in my head without entering into the realm of gawdy...I know not many would go purple but you'd really be amazed at all the "hey your guy's got a great truck" comments I get even when he's not with me...🙄 almost as bad as the hey oj comments (which is why I wanna get away from white)

❤❤❤ Thanks again 😊
Most of the time here I feel like a Chihuahua just tryin to keep up with the big dawgs... I'm just trying to not look like a total ass and do a good job while making it mine 😊

I value your opinion so don't undervalue your input. I appreciate it ❤
Not 100% sold on any of them but definitely thinking I'd like to find something made by cragar...
I know I've seen it a hundred times but what is my hole pattern (or whatever it's called) that I should be looking for in a 15 or 16x8 rim?

Lug pattern? Should be 5x5.5 or mm is 5x139.7
I’m sure someone will confirm. I vote for the white wagons (if I already didn’t). The guy that bought my 85 put chrome wagons on and it looks good too.

I see what you mean. Something about the mass of the FSB might call for more. Helps me with my thoughts on the 79.

I get that a lot with my 90. Even though to me it seems like a mostly red Bronco from the driver's seat (I suppose it"s really more of a maroon). Although I get that less on the 35s for some reason. I run it on 8 hole aluminum rims. I had another pic up earlier showinh more of the red hood, but since we're looking at rims & all this a better & cleaner shot. Poor ole truck has been doing service duty up at the retirement place recently. Fires right up & is eager to work everytime.

Something odd is up here. Everytime I edit that post it adds more spaces.
It does that to me too. It's like there's auto spacing in the page set up like if I post a pic directly under a line of text when I post it there's a line of space between the pic and the line of text... 🤷 Weird forum stuff 🤷
I like your work horse... Aren't those called Alcoas that are on it? Everyone seems to do that style and while they do look good I'm hoping to go a little more... Original.... More against the normal grain... Cause ya know... I'm the typical non conformist 😁

As mentioned, the lug pattern is 5x5.5, or, 5 lugs on a 5 1/2" circle.

Ultimately, while we can all say what we like, it is what we like. We can only guess at what your vision for it is. Ultimately, it needs to make you happy.
My mom's favorite color was purple, she had stuff in purple I didn't even know they made in that color. I inadvertently got her hooked on trucks, and she had an '81 fsb for prob about 10yrs, before getting the '93. The '81 was white with the red, white cap and sides, red interior. They got the tailgate redone, and the truck painted, in a light bown, not quite tan, lightly metallic. If she'd seen yours, i'm betting she would've followed suit.

I think Alcoa made that style, but I don't remember if these are that brand. I bought them used with that low milage set of 33s for around $400 back in 06. I thought they worked with the simple lines of the stock bricknose. Cleaner than the 10 holes with the ring of rivets that were common at the time. I'm not suggesting them for yours, just tossing in a pic of my "red" truck that kept getting the OJ comments. But, since we had just been talking rims, I swapped pics away from what I realized was a really dirty shot of mine. :brownbag Back to building that right big picture for each of us thing.

BTW, I get the not looking like everyone else thing. I'm the guy who drove the convertible Falcon to high school when mustangs & camaros were the rage, in spite of much ridicule at the time.

I have an idea....bear with me, go with the original style steel wheel with the trim ring and center cap...then paint the silver part purple, and keep the trim rings and center caps.

Also, those red stripe trim rings are getting really hard to find that arent beat up, i believe in the late 80's they started using a trim ring that was just solid chrome and had no stripe.

While I can appreciate your thought I gotta say in my mind that's venturing into the realm of gawdy... Too color matchy match for me...I want nice clean chrome rims to accent all the nice chrome that's already on her...

Boy that purple on that 50's car sure does pop with all that chrome. Not sure I'd be a fan combined with white but perhaps a perl white would be more appealing to me. I'd have to see it in person to know if I like it or not.
