Yup, pre-loading it is good but if you over fill it, it will leak all over when you go to put it on,
so ya, a quart, spin by hand, and stab it on, important to remember the "clicks" you should hear when mating it to the engine, that is the shaft seating in the pump assembaly,
and the converter button (center nipple?) seating in the center of the fly wheel, if you think its taking too much effort to turn the bellhousing bolts and theres still space between the bell housing and block face your probably right. Be carefull.
