A little info on the truck. 91 Ford EFI 460. I recently changed my spark plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. while not at highway speeds or while off road, my CEL does not come on. However, when I get to 45+ MPH, it turns on (I wanted to check here before I went and spent the money to get it read).

While I was buying the parts, the Napa guy asked me if my truck was EEC or not? Apparently the spark plug wires are different in some way if it was. I did not know, so he went off to ask someone. He assured me that EEC in these trucks is rare and I prob didn't have that so we went with the non EEC wires. Could this be causing my CEL to turn on (Maybe I do have EEC?)

The only other thing I did was plug my vent tube that goes from my valve cover to my airbox... but even when I run it open, the CEL still turns on at speed. Any ideas? Thanks guys

HAHAHAHAHAH

Dont ever go back to that Napa for fear of running into that guy again. He's a moron. EEC refers to your computer that runs the engine. All fuel injected engines have a computer. The EEC is the box behind the drivers side kickpanel. It runs everything, including your check engine light...which leads me to my next statement.

Check your codes. Even if the light goes out, the code is still stored in the computers memory and can be pulled. That will tell you why its on.

And leave that vent tube open. It draws clean air into the crankcase. The PCV system pulls dirty air from the crankcase and sends it to your intake. (Positive Crankcase Ventilation).
So the spark plug wires I'm using could be causing the light to kick on? I even tried telling the guy that I thought mine was EEC because it was EFI... but I wasn't sure because he seemed pretty convinced that it wasn't....... fkin napa guy. (Fkin me for not knowing any better.... :doh0715:)

"Wrong spark plug wires" is not one of the codes the computer can choose.
Well no shit....

I was wondering if the code may have been "Not enough spark/voltage/amperage" due to the wires maybe not having the ability to send enough juice to the plugs etc.

Either way, I am just going to get the codes read because I have done just about everything I can think of (Thanks for the link Steve, that was helpful atleast to get me started).

You don't "get them read" - you read them. It takes all of 2 minutes with a paperclip.
The local dealership here will do it for free... and then give me a quote on how much to fix it. At that point when I have the info I need, i'll fix (If I can).

I realize its prob pretty easy to do with the paperclip but my luck I will fk something up... I'd rather take it to someone who has experience doing it, maybe theyll let me watch and if I have to do it again in the future I'll be more confident doing it myself. (This is the wrong time of year to have my rig down for any amount of time, summers here aren't all that long).
