My grandson told my wife he wanted a Bronco for Christmas, she asked if he wanted a hot wheel, or Tonka truck sized bronco and if he wanted it remote controlled? He said “no grandma I want a real one with a stick shift and a clutch like grandpa’s. He will have plenty of time to help me get it all running right and looking good before I need to drive it.”
He’s 8 years old !! Gotta love the kid though. Now my wife has me looking for another project bronco. But if would have suggested it she would have told me I’m nucking futs!
You think 8 is to young to get a truck to start working on? He shows interest every time I’m working on mine, for at least an hour before he’s sidetracked and goofing off at the shop.

MojoJojo, I picked up my first tool when I was 2. My first understandable word was”transmission”. I was given my first car at the age of 5, and my first bicycle at 8. I’ll be 41 next week, and I still look at cars as a blank canvas, and wish my grandpa could see me now.
The stuff you teach the boy now will stick with him for the rest of his life, even after we all are gone.

Never too young. An hour is pretty good for an 8 year old! I had a full "play" power tool set as a 5 year old. A real lathe, real scroll saw, etc. Taught me about respecting power tools. That scroll saw woulda taken my lil fingers right off, if I wasnt careful.

Of course my dad also bought me a Red Ryder the month I was born. 31 years later it still works and is even in my safe with a 20 cal (not 22) Benjamin pellet rifle and a bunch of actual firearms.

and yes it looks like the drivers window has been down a while and the tree that fell on it cracked the top

That's great he has so much interest... My boy is very similar except for him, it's dirt bikes... He started the mania at 9 (late Bloomer 😂). Now at 15 he wants to build custom cycle and be an engineer... It's in the blood, u can't deny them 👍
That $300 bronco is kind of a hot mess... What aspect of the build does ur grandson seem most interested in?

Then there’s plan B he wants the 351 and it has stock rollers on it. Maybe the weed mobiles frame and this truck? Tubs bent in the back though.

I'd hold out for some better candidates if you can. Maybe a Bullnose that you am swap a 5sp M5R2 or ZF5 into. If not that then a 92-96 with a 351. I say get one if the opportunity arises. The two of you can work on it together and it will be a great learning experience for him.

Ya the frame puckered rig guy said $150 he keeps the engine. The other truck weedmobile, I think needs a ride to the crusher although weedmobile is a 300 L6 and it’s tranny and t-case will fit the 300 I just pulled from the F250... if I could swing them both for $150 each... 2 t-cases and whatever is salvageable?? Might be worth parts?? And the weedmobile is my scrap haulers dad so he knows it ain’t worth more the $80 in the scrap yard. Decision, decisions .... and now I get to start disassembling an 08 Outback.... my shop is going to burst at the seams, talk about too many iron horses in the fire!!!!!!
