Custom cam company recommendations

Need a custom cam ground for a 5.0. I have a quote from these guys:

Jones Cam Designs - 7859 Commerce Dr. Denver, NC 28037 - (704)489-2449

But I found them online and have no other info. Tried searching and didn't see what I needed.

Who is good, but doesn't need an arm or my first born for payment?

Or, anyone here from around there and have any familiarity with them? I sent an email to the City Hall there, no response yet.

Thanks!

I told him the lifters I bought (Ford Motorsport) and he said ok. He never mentioned the lube so I will be sure to ask.

Car is staying all motor.

I have nothing in writing from them yet as it was all over the phone. Will share specs when I have definitive numbers.

He did say it was a somewhat common combo so the cam is very close to what others have used.

I know a roller cam requires no official break in run. Just motor oil and go.

being a roller cam they might not require anything special

Didnt realize this was a roller cam! Certainly dont need any additives for that.

Lifters may not matter for warranty on those, i dont know.
I emailed them yesterday morning and no response yet. If I don't hear back today I plan to give them a ring tomorrow.

Ok. Motor is going to be a hydraulic roller 347. Cam specs:

INTAKE 276 DURATION 224 @ .050" .542" LIFT

EXHAUST 282 DURATION 230 @ .050" .552" LIFT

110 LOBE CENTER

It should sound and perform well.

Holy lift Batman! The cam in my 300 is very similar, an equal pattern 280° ADV, 222° @.050, and 110 LSA, but ONLY .480" lift.

I think you will be very pleased with that. The cam closest to that in their catalog says 2200-6000 rpms. Usually that is for a 302. At 347ci, lower that range a bit, maybe 1900-5500 rpms. But you have more lift so that may raise it back up a bit. Regardless, it should have great power in the whole usuable rpm range.
I agree!
I will never spin it to 6k anyway.
I will probably rarely spin to 5k.
I love to play in the 2-4k range. Lots of fun! The AFR heads can do .600 so still room for play.

ya i would not consider that .542 / .554 crazy lift. but at the same time might need different springs if you wanted it to be more. the cam designer would determine what springs you SHOULD run. aftermarekt aluminum head can take advanatge of more lift than production iron heads so alot of cam builders take full advantage of that.

my 347 for my F250 with modified AFR185 Renegade heads is going to have .602 / .598 lift

my 408 in my 96 with AFR205 heads is just shy with .594 / .582 lift

Crazy is relative... .55" of lift is a lot but nor would i call it outrageous. I knew you would chime in with your crazy lift numbers lol!

Gotta let that engine breathe!
I would consider .500 range of lift to be a small performance improvement over stock, depending on duration.

There are race classes that mandate small lift like that but any duration so they still can make some power.

I'd say for a good range of power get as much lift in there as you can mildish on duration like the one above.

Most important is getting all the parts to work toward the same power range. And a looser converter to work with the power range of the engine.

With my 5speed manual and 3.55 gears power from 2-5k should be abundant.
Especially in a 3100 lb car.

Sounds like my ol mustang, except i ran it up to 6500 rpms (4.6 DOHC).

I am one who likes to run my engines way up in the rpms before i shift, if need be. In my 3v 5.4L superduty, ill floor it to get up on the highway. At about 4000 rpms, i can feel the VVT adjust and the truck literally takes off, like i hit a 50 shot of nitrous. Runs like that to 5500 where the fuel shuts off.
I like the sounds made up there for sure.

Cam arrived. They really package them good for shipping I was happy to see!
They included a small tub of lube to use and said to keep it over 2k rpm for 15 minutes to ensure good oiling.
I also repainted all the bright red (looked too close to Chevy orange) light Ford blue. Block, TC, WP. Might hit the intake manifold too. That might be too much though lol.

Get it from Schneider? I remember mine came well packed and with assembly lube.

Dont paint the intake blue... Thats too much. Do it in aluminum color.
Yup, Schneider.
Yeah, I may just leave the intake natural aluminum.

Planning to install it straight up. Powerband will be 2-6k that way which is great for this rig. Light at only 3100 lbs, 3.55 gears and a 5-speed.
The grind is based on a straight up install, so staying with it
