So I just made the cuts according to Steve83's writeup on his Supermotors page, and everything was illustrated perfectly to achieve perfect results!

His measurements are spot on, and this was more easily completed than I had expected, completing the small project within a half-hour.

As my suspension is stock, the sawzall/recip/jigsaw cutting method was not feasible because of the SMALL space available between floor and tank, so I decided to just use my cutoff wheel. Concerned about the safety of flying sparks + gasoline, I decided to place 24x18 piece of 1/16 galvanized between the floor and the tank, and dowse heavily with water from my garden hose.

The plate worked perfectly, both as a spark/heat shield and as a barrier protecting the tank and tubes and wires from any moving parts or accidental cutting. AND I didn't blow up. :rockon

Although not the safest method to be certain, it worked great for me. If anyone is planning on this mod, just follow Steve83's instructions and you should share the same success....

You can also search for "Gas tank removal" & find Bossind's write-up on how to replace just the pump asy with a higher pressure pump ( Fuel pump upgrade 125lph to 255lph) dated 11/18/2007. He tells how to cheaply replace your pump with an upgraded one that still works with stock injectors, fuel pressure regulator, etc. Worth checking out!!!:thumbup -Kevin-

The only way Ford would do that from the factory is if the part commonly needed access for work while it was under warranty. Most all fuel pumps will get through the warranty period so there is no reason for them to do it.

So apparently they plan on changing alot of pumps in the new mustangs that do have the access?

Well if you cheap azz's buy a GOOD pump this would be no issue.....................

I have over 240K on my first FORD pump when I changed it. It has over 110K on the replacement..............

So TWO pumps in 350K is not bad IMOP.

I have been kinda following what has been going on hereand I have finally decided. I like my truck too much to cut a big hole in it just to access a pump that may have to come out 2-3 times in a trucks life. I know that pulling a fuel tank is a pain in the ass but to cut a hole just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm thinking about doing this as well. I really dont want to pay a shop $500 to replace my sender unit. The gas broken gas gauge is killing me.
