I have the option of snagging a 1978 Dana 44-9F or a 1978 44-6OF/44-6CF axle (door code 24J...and I can't remember if it was closed or open knuckle) for the 5-lug to 8-lug swap (for my 78 F150 4x4). I've found a lot of info on the 44-9F, but there's not much to be found on the 44-6OF/44-6CF.

I know the 44-9F is 19 spline with 8-lug outers.

My question is:

What's the difference between the axles and would it be worthwhile to get the 44-6OF/44-6CF?
