From the trip write ups that I've read (quite a few), everything except Echo Canyon should be fine for a stocker with a patient driver. Echo, on the other hand, will require careful driving and maybe a pull or two. The back side going down from Inyo Mine to Amargosa is not maintained by anyone, so we're on our own back there. The rest is pretty well traveled. I don't know about your pass(es). Can you find out? I don't know what you have.

As far as using them for camping, though, the only site for which we need to pay is Furnace Creek. The ones at Thorndyke and Mahogany Flats are free, but first-come, first-served. That's one of the reasons we need to leave early from Adelanto. Amargosa Big Dune is on public land that requires no permit.
thinking that if you are open or stock you need recovery points..

I should have linked it like I did on the "feeler" thread. Basically, you pay the entry fee and a few things happen:

1). Somebody else covers the reservations for campgrounds. Not exactly a big deal, but a convenience nonetheless. It also ensures that everybody chipped in on the cost of the campground so nobody is left paying for somebody else to freeload or police who paid what.
2). You enter the poker game. By the end of the run, you have 5 card envelopes like everybody else. You open your envelopes ... The guy holding the best poker hand takes home half the entry fees (less those reservation costs and maybe a BBQ as explained before). Look at it this way... if there are 10 early entries and you win, you get $125 cash. If somebody else wins, you're out a few bucks 'cause you were gonna chip in for the campsite either way, right? We're going to Vegas so you can win it back and pay for everyone's gas. :D
3). The rest of the money goes to charity so you feel like a generous member of society. (yeah, cheeky but true)
4). I thought it sounded like fun. No?
Wow that sounds like a lot of fun actually, I would love to do it. If I were to be able to do it, how do I pay? How does all that work?

I thought it would. When I first heard about some of my buddies doing Poker Runs at the river, I figured we should do one out here.

PayPal, cash, money order... up to you. I'll give you a receipt (unless you use PayPal which will generate one for you) to show that you paid in. I'll update the first post in the thread with the names of the entrants. PM me if you want to enter.

I can tell you from experience that cell phone connectivity in the valleys is slim to none unless you have some sort of signal extender or a satellite phone. CB's are always a plus but when you get up into the canyons, your transmit and receive signal stinks unless you have a kicker.

I'm in! This looks awesome! Wish there was more off pavement, but 175 miles is still pretty sweet.

$25 is cool, too. The charity aspect is great, and it's worth it to me just for the time you have in putting this all together.

That said, who knows what can happen a year from now. But get me your Paypal, Charlie. I will pay for this and that digital CB so I am covered on all communications fronts (want to pick up the CB soon). If, per chance, I can't make it in March, keep the $25.

As for Vegas...Vegas sucks. But I might be persuaded....

im really interested in doing the run just cant commit to something almost a year in advance but this is definately something i would love to make it to
Totally understood.n I posted way in advance because a lot of people will need months to prepare and plan for an event like this. Just stay tuned and let me know when you decide.

Yes, I'll have to think about this in about 6 months! haha. I would love too, but i'd have to save up about 1000 bucks to afford gas. lol
That's just about right for some of us. I'm at roughly $850 at 8 mpg. It's a commitment but how often do you get a chance to run around in Death Valley with friends and Fords?

Good info. I'm thinking we'll have to plan for - at a minimum - the lead truck and the chase truck with kickers.

Glad you're excited, too! I'll email you the PayPal info and get your name on the list. So far I've got four trucks but only one paid.

And we'll persuade you. LOL I'll spring for your car wash if you go. That ought to save you three hours of work at home! :haha

Hey Speedy - GREAT JOB ON THIS.

I am really impressed how you ran with this and all the work you have done.

It sure has come a long way from my original thread that turned into the Mojave Road trip.

I am, of course, definitely in for this and can't wait.

Still planning on doing a time lapse of the entire trip with my GoPro HD

Well depending on funds, I am in. I am going to start saving now :)

I have a liner amp that I can install in my bronco, I am also planning on buying a Wilson cell phone booster, and I should have OBA by then. I should also have my lift and winch installed by then. Now that i think about it. I may not have any money to save :p

Cancel your online porn subscription for one month and the $25 is paid!

Now the gas, food, etc...that's another story. Like I said, a lot can happen in a year. But if we get the $25 in and get the reservations, it makes the whole thing easier. Will build anticipation, too, as more people commit.

I've got a bunch of scrap metal you can pick up from my shop and recycle, Tony, in lieu of donations. You look like a strapping young lad, wouldn't want to insult your manhood by denying you the opportunity to earn the money LOL...
