I have a 79 bronco with eight lug conv. off of a 79 f250. It has dual calipers. The first retainer came out and cut into the rim. Brought new brake hardware. installed and now while driving down the road at 60mph the retainer came out again this time lodging it between the wheel and caliper. It broke the rim, lost all the air in the tire and lock up the tire. Its looks like the caliper holder is worn. You can just slide the retainers in by hand. And yes I'm installing new spring with it and bolt. Has anyone ever welded up the caliper holder?
Doug.

Ive had to weld these to repair this same problem. After the springs lose tension the caliper rattles in the bracket and the problem becomes worse.
Typically the bolt will not allow the retainer to move due to the detent or slot in the retainer itself, but there is only one.
I drill and tap the upper portion of the bracket to accommodate another bolt, preventing either retainer from falling out.

High nickel, or stainless wire / rod works well for this repair.
