The 351w in my bronco is tired and is already on its 3rd rebuild so I decided to put a different motor in it. I looked for a 351c or another 351w but i found a good condition 302 for cheap. I have the motor and im trying to plan build ideas and stuff for it. It dosent nessecerly need a rebuild but were doing it anyways for power! I have it at a guys house ready to tear down but im waiting till his 426 and my friends 351m are outta there so i have a engine stand rather that having it hang from a hoist while trying to work on it..lol. I am ordering a rebuild kit from Northern auto parts. Im thinking .030 or so eh? I wanna get alot of low-top power outta this cause its more less gonna be a road truck cause im poor and cant do a SAS and buy a lift and tires.
Does anybody have suggestions on a good cam, intake and carb?

Call Crane Cams, and they'll tell you exactly what you need to know. (386) 258-6174 I have 272 lift @ 484 duration, and that is way too high. (live and learn) But if you call them, they can tell you exactly what you need, so that it meshes with your parts (torque convertor, heads, carb, gears), and intended use. They can make a suggestion as to which carb to use as well, and should be able to tell you what jets and mixture to run.
I know you said you are poor, but have you considering switching to fuel injection?

Ok I get paid this Wednesday so im thinking about starting to buy the goods for the 302 build-up. Im thinking about goin with the CRANE Energizer cam 1200-4200rpm, i dont know much else about cams but it says this on the catolg,$109w/out vavle parts.
Adv Dur [email protected] .050 Deg Lobe lift Int/Exh
Int/Exh Int/Exh seperation .456/.456
260/260 204/204 110

I also like the Comp cams Performance valve train and cam kit, it comes with Hi-energy,Magnum or extreme enery cam, hydraulic lifters, matched valve springs, steel retainers, valve locks, valve stem seals, high energy timing set and assembly lube.
Adv./Dur [email protected] Lift
Int./Exh. Int./Exh. Int./Exh.
.268/.268 .218/.218 .456/.456

Im probably gona go with the comp cause its a better deal and includes everything.

As far as the Intake manifold go im checking out the
Aluminum Holley with the square-bore flange Idle-5500rpm.
Edelbrock Performer Idle-5500rpm.
Edelbrock Dual Quad 1500-6500.

Idont know much about Carbs but i want a good 4-barrel that i dont have to mess with alot. I do like the Edelbrock Performer 4 barrel 600cfm non emission.

I am mostly researching right now but in the next month or so im gonna start buying what I need but i aint the smartest with this stuff so im gonna need help from you guys cause alot of you are good and experienced with this stuff.

Any reccomendations on cam, carb, intake, distributor, ect ect i want a good running but reliable& powerful engine, id also like it to be able to be driven regularly s a daily driver so i need performance parts that go together well. ANY INPUT OR SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME AND IAM THANKHUL FOR THE HELP!

Thanks, hopefully this goes succesfully...

PS, to bad they dont have Blowers for a 302...lol

why don't you try professional products for your intake . i just purchased one for my 351w for half the price of edlebrock, and or holly. i thick i saw one for 302 for about $119.00. as far as cam choices im runing a 280/290 lift cam that i think is great. if you can get one of your local engine shops to help you with your parts that is always a good thing. i ordered my complete engine kit from engine parts warehouse for 425.00 and that included everything from pistons to feeze plugs, even included cam, and lifters, oil pump, all my bearings, and complete gasket kit. check them out its worth it. any questione you can yahoo me

I think you'll be happy with the cam choice you specified. Mine doesn't make power until too high in the rev range. Yours is more of a low end cam than mine, but may still be a lil high for a truck. Did you call te # I gave you? I'm serious, those guys know what they're talkin about. They can give you specifics, depending on everything from tire size to torque convertor stall speed. You should really call them before you buy.

Buy from whoever you want. Just talk to an expert before you just go out spendin money. That's all I'm saying. I don't want you to be disappointed.

Here's what I got.

302EFI bored .40 over (307.65)
Remanufactured short block from Grooms.

Comp. Cam with 206/212 Duration at .050.
462/474 lift.
114 Degrees Lobe seperation.

Ford Racing Cast Iron GT-40 heads.
60cc combustion chambers.
1.84 in./1.46 in. valve diameters.

Ford Racing Stainless Steel Shorty Headers

I wish I could tell you how it performs compared to how it was before. But the engine replacement came after a broke crank, so I wasn't concentrating on it's performance at the time, I was acually on my way to hunt at 5 in the morning. I like the heads, they perform really well and didn't cost that much. Jerry has those heads as well, so maybe he will pipe in here. I do want to upgrade my intake and my exhaust, I think they are hindering the performance. Also, my cam seems cut for a little higher RPM range then I would like. But when I swap gears I will be going a little lower (numerically higher) for th3 35's I eventually get so that should help.

Yeah, I got those heads too. They're great, but the high cam doesn't let me benefit from their full potential. If you are buying heads too, then the GT-40's are a great buy. But you have to get headers to match. If not, they'll melt the hell outa your plug wires. It's also a pain in the ass for plug changes.

Also, when reading your post again, I realize you said that they don't make a blower for the 302. Are you kiddn? There's more aftermarket stuff for a 302 than a Honda Civic. You're on a budget, and don't want a blower. But if you decided to dump a couple thousand more into this project, I can give you a handful of places to look.

Ya, I have definately flirted with the idea of a blower, but I want to be completely content with my engine before I commit to a blower. It will be considered after the 460/512 conversion, when ever that happens.

I believe roller blocks are 86 and later, but I may be wrong.
