So noob question here. Had to replace drag link and tie rod on my 89 Bronco. Got the parts in for Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard.

Pulled the old ones and they were shot. Boots as flat as pancakes and split open. Lots of wiggle in the tie rod ends too.

Get the measurements and get them installed so here is my question.

Torque specs are 52-74 ft/lbs but as I start cranking down the castle but it compresses the boot and gets down below the hole for the cotter pin.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks

What you’re doing wrong is using those parts from JBG. I installed those last year and noticed that same thing. I went with it though. After about 93 days, (3 days past warranty) I noticed that the boots were rotted and cracked and grease was squirting out.

If I were you I would return them for a refund and buy Moog parts.

JBG parts after three months:

Moog parts installed now:

Notice the difference in this pic - not only the rotted boot, but how much farther down the castle nut is on the threads.
