I am in the process of rebuilding my double cardan on my drive shaft and am having problems with the centering bearing.

I have the bearing in but it does not seem to be able to rotate freely like the old one. With out the seal it seems ok, but when I put the seal in place it stops moving. Does it just need to break in or did I screw something up?

Thanks to Keith L for the pic.

Every time I changed them I too always noticed it was a bit stiff as it should be.

Just lube them up and go with it. It will be OK as long as it's installed flush, and could still be pivoted by hand.
(PS.. don't forget the spring!)

I hope this ends up helping someone searching.

I went to Proven Force in bloomington MN. I recommend them for anyone in the Minneapolis area. The woman there has been great both times I have gone in. I took the flange part (picture above from Keith L) wtih me and she looked at it. While it is a little stiff she said it was fine and that I have the seal and everything in place fine. So I will be moving on to put the rest of the shaft back together.

Hope this helps someone who might be in the same spot.
