My 93 5.8L has been running ragged lately. A couple of times when I started it it felt like it was missing on a few cylinders, very rough. This was when I first started it. I'd keep giving it gas and it would smooth out and run fine in just a few minutes. It doesn't do this everytime I start it, but most of the time over the past two days.
Today I was driving it and all of a sudden it seemed to loose power, the tack would drop, if i kept a steady throttle on it it would smooth out and run fine. THere is hesitiation when it does this, not respond to gas, then it goes away.
I read the codes, but am not sure what to check.
I get 116,626,114,553,552 a long pause then 122, 334, 628.
The truck doesn't over heat, runs good most of the time, but has this hesitation off and on???

Any help would be appreciated.

Do a search to find what those #s mean, post it and I'm sure You'll get some help if you still need it. Without knowing what the codes mean I was thinking of the EGC valve.

yeah, but there is so many things i'm not sure where to start.
116 : Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sensor circuit voltage high or low.
the trucks temp runs normal
636 : Transmission Fluid Temp (TFT) high or low
114 : Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor circuit voltage high or low
553 : Secondary Air Injection Diverter (AIRD) circuit failure KOEO
552 : Secondary Air Injection Bypass (AIRB) circuit failure KOEO

122 : Throttle Position (TP) sensor circuit low voltage
334 : EGR (EVP) closed valve voltage higher than expected
626 : Coast Clutch Solenoid (CCS) circuit failure KOEO

I was thinking taking the IAC off and cleaning it and the egr valve too. I'm sure some of these codes are results of something else flaking out.

Thanks again

use your hanes manual to show you how to check the sensors first three.
I don't know about the 553 & 552, look in your hanes for troubleshooting that
The last three, I woul guess is in your continuous memory or stored memory.

Ultimately you have to follow the test procedure outlined in the hanes manual to test all the above. A handheld vacuum pump will be needed to check the egr valve.
