I'm trying to solve my idle issue. I cleaned the iac and replaced the gasket, and it idles better but not perfect. So I go to the egr valve and take that off and realize that there isn't a tube or anything connected to the bottom where I feel like there should be? Where dose this tune run to and is there a reason someone would have taken it off and not put it back on? Thanks!

In my '87 there is a slightly flexible metal hose from the bottom of the EGR to the top of the lower intake manifold. Unless your EGR is leaking into the upper plenum then it should not be causing a problem there at idle... However... The other end of that how connects to the lower manifold so I'm concerned that unless someone plugged it, it's a huge vacuum leak. Hopefully someone plugged it. You'll need a mechanic's mirror or something to check.

See how the lower pipe runs between the upper plenum and lower intake, in that scraggly heat wrap...

EGR Valve/Idle Issues

Hi, I have the same problem. I could not replace the EGR Valve Tube because we could not get the old Fitting off to put the new tube on. Someone helped me do this, and he said he welded it shut, but that's not the truth. He just squeezed the tube. I think it's sucking air, and causing the feeling of a vacuum leak. I would like to fix it properly, but I am having trouble finding the assembly.

The tube itself looks like this.

You have to remove the upper intake to get to it.

Heres where it connects. You can see the tube is wrapped in a black fiberglass jacket, it used to be white.

There was a big crack in the accordion section of the tubing.
