Cheap insurance while you’re there.Y'all think I should replace the filler neck too?
If you remove the skid plate (4 bolts) you can get on that filter pretty easily with a strap wrench and get it loose. also clean the crap off the skid plate while you're at it. That way you don't have to undo the fuel lines. 6 one way, half dozen another really i suppose.I have done this with the canister in the truck about 30 years ago. I can tell you, taking two bolts out and some fuel lines made this much easier to do than working around the transfer case shield to get the seal to seat properly.
I tried that but I couldn’t get it to unscrew. It was so tight. Even in the vise when I took it off it took quite a bit of effort to get it to give.If you remove the skid plate (4 bolts) you can get on that filter pretty easily with a strap wrench and get it loose. also clean the crap off the skid plate while you're at it. yeah I went and bought the right size one of those. I am gunna replace the whole assembly with that one I showed you off Amazon. Coming in the mail today. I also went ahead and bought a in-line fuel pump as well made by Carter. I am kind of hesitant to take the Motorcraft one out as it does turn on and work but I just feel like it may be on its way out, just due to the age of it. Its held on partially by a ziptie too from previous ownerI used one of these i believe to get mine loose...and from best i could tell, it had NEVER been changed, it was absolutely gross. I do have some rubber strap wrenches too, but i really don't recall which I used. The fuel filter on my daily driver is in a similar spot as well.

and here's the in line FP I got. Guess I would have to splice it in too. All this stuff is new to me so I am learning as I go.I used one of these i believe to get mine loose...and from best i could tell, it had NEVER been changed, it was absolutely gross. Oh yeah I’ve got the flare stuff figured out. I’m just tryna to understand the differences in hose dimensions if any. I have to replace the hard lines because 1. I broke the connector going to the sending unit and 2. I’m plumbing in a new fuel filter assembly that only has barbsAre you talking about removing the entire hard line and replacing it with hose from the tank to the filter? If so, i'd leave the hard line and just use short pieces of hose to make the connections, but make sure you put a flare on the end of the hard line so the hose has something to tighten up against so it don't slip off.
the flare side attaches to the quick disconnect? You can get some NPT to Flare adapters for the filter if you wanted to keep it all hard line, and since its fuel line you can do single flare...just a thought.

Spectra PremiumWhat brand pump so I can avoid? I’m thinking just getting a new tank saw one on oreillys for 155 bucks 33 gallons. Bronco graveyard didn’t have the right gallon tank
Thanks. I ended up getting DelphiSpectra Premium
I dont know about quick disconnect , im sure someone somewhere makes it. Maybe Aeroquip, they make tons of that stuff. I was just saying if you wanted to buy some tubing and build your own hard line to the filter, that way you wouldnt ever have to worry about the hose bursting or anything like that. Also someone mentioned the poly line that modern cars use, they connect with compression fittings.the flare side attaches to the quick disconnect?
Right now I am on the track of running two 3/8 hoses from tank to the first filter reservoir housing then from that point on going 5/16 all the way to engine. It would just be easier that way. on the 5/16 side of the filter housing (outlet) I am trying to figure out how I can hook up to the 5/16 quick disconnect hard line thats already there? Any ideas? Hope that made sense
Good advise. So hard line, where do I get that? Is it custom molded like brake lines? The current lines I have are all hard line plastic but I am having to replace at least one connector as I snapped it off when removing the gas tank. That’s what has brought me to this point.I dont know about quick disconnect , im sure someone somewhere makes it. Maybe Aeroquip, they make tons of that stuff. Hose sounds easier, but not if you do it correctly, keep in mind you will need to put several hose clamp holders along the way to keep that hose from sagging and wiggling around under there. I'd probably put one every foot. The metal line could just snap back in the original holders without having to use all those hose hangers.
I used hose on my race car when i first plumbed it for fuel (Hydraulic hose), i put a hanging clamp about every 2 foot and i looked under it one day and it was just sagging and flopping around, i went back and doubled up on the clamps, then eventually just pulled it all out and put in a hard line and didn't have to worry about it anymore.
