I just got my block back from the machine shop, and it will be a couple weeks before it gets assembled. I need to wash the block and get it cleaned up, but is it ok to wash the block now with hot water and soap, dry it good, and then spray the cylinders and surfaces with WD-40. Or should I wait until right before assembly to wash it. Or do you guys have any other suggestions. Thanks

Wash w/ soap water and degreaser, dry it and spray WD-40 liberally. Then wrap the whole egine tightly with plastic wrap. The kind you use on sandwiches. Make sure you use alot of wd-40 especially on the cylinder walls. And liberally use wrap as well.

The machine shop didn't wash or bake it???

I'd haul it to a car wash & blast it clean, then set it indoors with a heater (or 4) near it to dry it fast, then tape off the head surfaces & paint the outside with Ford gray engine paint (400°F). After that dries, then spray the insides with WD-40 & tape up the pan & front.
